Hi, Yes it is an electric fuel pump and the ticking is the pump working. So if you hear the ticking your pump should be OK. After turning off the petcock and running the carbs dry the next time you turn it back on you should leave the kill switch on and turn the key on and wait till the ticking stops, turn the key off and back on and wait for the ticking to stop again. You should do this a couple of times to make sure the system fills. Normally you should always use your kill switch to turn off your engine. Also under normal conditions you will not hear the ticking as it only ticks a couple of times to fill the system once it is full. Good Luck to you, This should Fixya!

SOURCE: When i try to start my 03' sportster, it keeps

This sounds like a circuit breaker tripping. If you have a short somewhere, the circuit breaker will break with an audible click. When it cools off in a few seconds, it will reset. If the short circuit is still present, it will immediately trip again making the same clicking noise. You need to find out which breaker it is and trace the short. I don't think the starter relay is under the tank but if this is it, the relay is making a tick but the engine is not starting, you need a new relay.

Good Luck

The hissing........do this once. turn the bike to the "on" position. Dont start the bike, just turn ity so you can hear the fuel pump engage. After the pump stops, listen really close to the inside of the tank......do you hear anything, like some gas still sprinkling out inside the tank? hopefully, you are at about a half tank or less. You wont hear it with a full tank. need to know where this hissing is from, under or in the tank. you arent going crazy.........yet. :o) I'll keep an eye out for your response.

What is the problem hear blower and air conditioner stopped working

Sounds like an air lock in your heater system. Take off your radiator or expansion tank top and let your engine tick over while you fill up the water tank it may take twenty minutes before you feel warm air coming through your heater then put cap back on and run your engine normally

2004 Cadillac cts Car would not start so i replaced the catalyst converter and after doing so it started right up but was making a ticking noise from rear of engine

ticking noise sounds like a small exhaust leak. Get under car and run your hand near where you hear it. That could be because of the recent exhaust work. A small leak sounds just like a tick in the engine

I have a 2000 bonneville 3800 series 2 engine, when the engine warms up it has a tick or knock but its not in the engine it works good. Could it be the flywheel

The sound you are hearing is probably the fuel injectors firing...this is normal to a point but a louder tick may indicate your injectors are becoming clogged. Fill your tank to half and add a large bottle of fuel injector cleaner... the cheaper the better as you want to run this mixture to near empty. After that add half a tank without and I bet your noise decreases ,milage increases , as well as performance. Hope this helps you out ...a reply would be appreciated! Thanks for your question.

Cooling system

You still have air trapped in your cooling system, turn the heat to full and remove the radiator cap with engine running, Make sure you remove the radiator cap before you start the engine, once the engine has reached it's operating temperature and there is heat coming from the vents. Top off radiator till full and place the radiator cap back on with engine still running only on the first click, make sure the coolant over flow tank is at proper level and go for a test drive with the heat still on hottest setting. (roll the windows down).
Ofter test drive 5 min to 10min, with engine still running close off the radiator cap to the second click. Tank note that the cap may be to hot so use a rag and caution not to burn your self.
This should get any air in the cooling system out, any air in the system may cause the system to burst since the air will try to escape any week spot. That's why we only close the radiator cap to the first click to prevent any additional pressure that can cause a leak from the hot air.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

A motor runs with no one in the car

The cooling fan on the radiator is being turned on by the radiator temp switch. This is normal. It keeps excessive heat and pressure from building up inside your engine. Excessive heat can cause radiators to overflow or hoses to burst. It is NOT a bad thing for that fan to be running for 2 - 3 mins.

Change almost everything under the hood but its still running hot

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line. It's job is to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage. The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side to near the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.
Bear in mind this is very very common on the Northstar engine but is very often blamed on failed head gaskets.

2005 VTX1300R - red temperature light comes on? How do I add fluid to radiator?

The radiator cap is under the fuel tank. You will have to unbolt it an move it back for access. Top off the coolant while the engine is running. The expansion tank fill is behind the side cover.
