Check your fuel filter

Testimonial: "Thanks for answering.I appreciate that. I've replaced fuelfilter. I've blown out lines from carb back to fuel tank. New plugs. The fuel cap is not vented so no plugged holes there. As I say, idles fine , with blades engaged, but start mowing, cough, cough, die. I also took fuel line off at carb to see if pumping gas, and it is. Thanks"

GOOD MORNING, I HAVE A D140 JOHN DEERE LAWN MOW,IT RUN WELL WHEN NOT MOWING BUT WHEN ENGAGED IT SLOW DOWN AS THOUGH IT HAS TO CATCH IT'S BREATH LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD

Make sure there isn't anything binding the deck belt or blades. Check the spindles for free movenent. If all that is good then it might be the linkage that is supposed to adjust the throttle when the engine is under load or it might be a carb issue...especially if you run ethanol gas in it.

I have a John Deere LX178 lawn tractor and the mower deck will not raise/lower. It is all the way down and pushing in the button is how i've ALWAYS adjusted the height. It will not budge

1) NEVER adjust to where the deck wheels touch the ground. The wheels are to ride 1/4" off the ground. 2) The long lever to your left which raises & lowers the deck has 3 settings. 1- Fully back toward you which has the deck raised (called transport mode). 2- Halfway down which is the normal mowing mode (called float mode) 3- Fully away from you which sets the deck fully on the ground. This mode is ONLY used for VERY rough terrain where the deck risks getting pushed into "transport" or "full up" mode & getting stuck there. 3) On front-to-back tilt, the front should be 1/2inch lower than the back for least damage to the grass. Ok-now to adjust "cutting" height. 1) Park on a level, flat surface. 2) Pull the deck lever fully back toward you to put the deck into "transport" mode. 3) twist the "cutting" height knob (just below your seat) to the height you want the grass cut. Has choices by 1/2" increments from 1" to 3.5". The deck in "transport" mode is 4". 4) Lower the deck lever to the midway/"floating" mode point. 5) Adjust each deck wheel with its own peg & pin to have at least 1/4" clearance from ground. Thats it for "cutting height" adjustments

How do I level the deck on a John Deere X500 mower

FInd and buy a deck level guage (makes it so much easier) photo.25191349-sc2hyhwnmj3wm0xvqhiyjoyo-1-0_0.jpgAdjust the front tire pressures to 14 psi. Set the rear tires to 10 psi. Make sure that the mower is on level ground, concrete driveway or garage floor. Set you deck height knob to 2.5 inches. Move the blades to where the blade tips are pointing to the side of the mower deck. Level the deck side to side by adjusting the lift link nuts,15mm or 17mm wrench. Get the side to side as level and possible and close to a number or mark on the guage. Move the blade tips to the front of the mower deck. Check the front to back and have a 1/8" to 1/4" lower on the front of the blades than the back. 18mm and 19mm wrenches for the front adjusting bracket.

John Deere La175 Battery doesn't charge while mowing. After I mow for an hour or so and turn tractor off, it won't start. When I put the charger on it for a second or two, it turns over and runs....

I had the same problem. My LA 175 mowere deck would not engage and I figured out that the battery was not sending the sufficient 12volts to the mower deck to run the mower. I replaced the battery and that fixed the problem only to reveal the original problem. Within 2 hours of mowing the battery again died. I replaced the voltage regulator and that didnt help. I need suggestions on where to go from here please. Anybody?

Have a john deere sabre turn key won't start thought battery was dead charged battery still won't start jump start with car battery it will start then . try to engage reverse with blades running it...

Some mowers have a mowing reverse safety switch. That safety will kill the mower if you try to reverse with the deck engaged. Some mowers even have an override button that has to be held while backing up. As for the battery thing, no matter how much you charge a bad battery you will not get it to start a mower if it has a bad cell or two. I would use a multimeter to check battery voltage, but the end result would still be the same, replace the battery.

I hope this gets you going again.

Engine seems to run fine but when mower is engaged it loses power. It is a john deere 325.

Check to see if the mowing deck spins free or somewhat free with the engine off, It might be wrapped up with twine or something stopping from spinning, this will bog down the engine. Hope this helps.

I have a John Deere X304 that mows unevenly.

Make sure that your gauge wheels are not running on the ground during mowing, they should only hit the ground when you engage a high spot on one side.also when you level the deck the front should be a 1/2" lower than the rear.

John Deere tractor stalls when I let up on the clutch.

when you let the clutch out and it stop engine it could be a safty switch. but a safty switch would not make it stop after it was runnig unless you have a short in the wire.
