Verify the in tank pickup fuel pump is running when the engine is being cranked. It will only run about 1 second when the key is turned on unless the engine is cranked.
Something else is the problem because it is impossible to get air in the fuel system and have it not start. Look to see what you might have knocked off or broke while changing the filter.
Hi there: I suggest to check fuel pressure at the shrader valve by the fuel filter, it sounds as if you have a restriction in the fuel system, the plugged fuel filterlight will come on at 7psi, you can take and blow air back through fuel line back to tank with fill cap off for diagnosing only, not a fix, if it runs better pull tank and check the screen in the pickup for plugging.
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.
my toyota corolla d4d 2.0 fuel filter light keeps coming on. when this happens it is my understanding that the car may not start, it does not pick up speed and there could be a leakage of fuel. but none of this is happening everything seems fine
