moving the base plate is how you adjust points. sometimes there is marks/scratches where the screws were tightend onto the base plate. try to line them up with the screw head.
The Z1 series engines were produced throughout most of the 1970's up to 1979. The engine would have been installed on the Z1F frame. That's all I know about the Kawasaki in that timeframe...hope it's enough for you.
On the oil filler port or on the engine cover where you find it, you should see a number followed by "cc". This is the oil capacity in cubic centimeters, or mL. One quart is 946cc.
