Check that both ends of the cable are actually properly seated in the fittings at both ends. Sometimes the cable can be tightened without the cable core actually seating properly.
Buy a user manual. 1) it will give you pictures. 2) it will be in terms you can understand. 3) it will be quicker and more accurate than anything anyone can advise on here.
ive just had this problem and when i checked the cable has snaped, you can use long nose pliars or fit the cable all together but short term long nose pliars from the left back pannel of the bike. hope this helps
