How do I fix/diagnose my washing machine, The belt keeps slipping off?

Hi all, I'm hoping someone here can help or advise The belt on my washing machine recently started slipping off, I had initially thought that the belt was stretched and replaced it but the problem persisted I had a repair guy from Samsung over and he quoted to replace the bearing kit & seals, Hub kit and tub seal but the quote was ridiculously high Question is firstly, Are these the parts needed for the problems I'm having and if so where can I source the parts and how hard is it to change out the parts?, Note that I am in South Africa, Thanks.

You might want to consider a new machine or check into warranty on that machine?

If the drive belt is v section the reason for coming off will be pulley misalignment
easy to check with a straight edge
check that the belt fits in the pulley so that the top of the belt is level with the pulley edge

    Hi, Thank you
I will check that, How do I fix this if it is the problem?

  • Bill Boyd Jul 21, 2016

that will depend on what you find
if the pulleys are on the same plane but one is at an angle to the other( most likely the motor pulley)it may be possible that the motor motor mounts are worn or the motor is misaligned so the fix will be to get the motor back in alignment
I see that it is a front loader so the motor should be laying on its side in line with the tub
that may mean the the tub is at an angle to the motor
( falling down at the front) rather than the motor being at an angle to the tub as in a top loader
That would make sense of the quote in requiring new bearings
possibly now is the time to get in a second opinion from an accredited washing machine repair shop other than samsung and if the quote runs along the same lines of the original one then maybe consideration of a new or replacement machine might be in order

Also make sure you have proper belt tension a loose belt will fly off

Testimonial: "I think the belt is fine, Its really a struggle to get it on and there's no slack on the belt once fitted"

My washing machine keeps on cutting off.

Hello
If your washing machine is cutting off after only running for a few seconds, it could be due to a few different issues:
  1. Overloading: If you have too many clothes in the drum, it can put too much strain on the motor and cause it to shut off. Remove some clothes and try again.
  2. Clogged pump: If there is an object stuck in the pump or the pump filter is clogged, it can cause the machine to shut off. Clean the pump and filter to see if this resolves the issue.
  3. Overheating: If the motor is overheating, it will shut off to protect itself. Wait for the motor to cool down and then try again.
  4. Malfunctioning motor control board: If the motor control board is damaged, it may cause the machine to shut off. Have a professional diagnose and repair the issue.
If you're hearing a slipping noise from the belt, it could indicate that the belt is loose or worn and needs to be replaced. This can also cause the machine to shut off if the belt is slipping too much. If you're not familiar with repairing washing machines, I would recommend contacting a professional for assistance.

My front end washer won't pump the water out and it smokes when it spins at the end of the cycle.

Sounds like it's a bad motor or the belt driving the tub is slipping.
If the motor is bad it will smell really bad. The belt slipping won't be as bad.
Have someone inspect both.
Hope this helps.

Belt slipping not turning the drum

Hi, is the belt slipping with every wash or just sometimes? There could be a number of things causing it, I suggest you check out the manual for the troubleshooter. There is a myriad of sites that provide them like this one Maytag Neptune Washer manual. Hope this will help ;)

My maytag washing machine model lat9606age is Washing my clothes but has no spin cycle and leaves the Clothes dripping wet. I've had someone here to look at it and charged me $85 to tell me the hub...

Hi just read your posting. The only time the hub and seal needs to be replaced is when the machine is leaking. Is your machine leaking on the floor. If you have a leak then the water could be leaking water onto the belt making it slip therefore not spinning.I have done a few of these machines and the job will take about 1 to 2 hours. Can you reply back and let me know if your machine is leaking water.Could be all you need is a new belt.Looking forward to your reply.

How to adjust the Belt?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

If it keeps slipping off- purchase a replacement 'cos it will only keep slipping off!

REMOVE POWER FROM THE MACHINE AND REMOVE THE BACK.
The motor support bolts should be loosened and the old belt removed. Often putting the new belt on is a bit of a struggle, even with the motor 'loose', because it is new and smaller!
Once on it should be tensioned by pulling the motor against the belt firmly- but not over tight- and the motor support bolts tightened.
ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD ANY FORM OF LEVERAGE BE USED TO TENSION THE BELT. THAT COULD LEAD TO DAMAGE TO THE BELT, MOTOR AND BEARINGS- EXPENSIVE!

Hope this is your problem solved.
Good luck,
John C

Is the motor supposed to not be fixed to tension

The motor is spring loaded to keep tention on the belt. The belt is designed to slip. When the washer is full of water the motor starts at 1725 RPM and the belt is a little loose. As the drum empties its water the belt gets tighter and the speed picks up to spin the water out of the cloths. If the cloths are not comming out as dry as they should, replace the belt. As the belt starts to wear it becomes shiny and doesn't grip the pully properly and slips too much.
I hope this helps.

Belt keeps coming off washer machine.

when your belt comes off this maybe a result of it being to slack, were the belt goes around the motor you will see that this motor is held on by either one or two bolts just loosen the bolts and why someone pulls the motor up to make it more tight then tighten bolts why someone still pulling motor up as the motor could slip back down making it slack again, hope this helps, rgds, paul
