1996 1400 Acts Like There Is No Reserve

1996 1400 and uses the reserve in the tank even tho it's not on reserve? The little arrow is straight up pointed to on and runs out the entire tank.

It is possible u have the feed lines crossed on the bottom of tank.if the tank has ever been removed. If it uses all the gas in both position then there maybe a problem with the straw .u may be able to tap the straw in with a hammer, personally dont like glue around gas .can cause ur carbs to become clogged .thats another set of problems

Ok, you have two "straws" on the petcock... one long that goes about an inch or so up into the tank, and a short one near the bottom of the tank.

When you petcock is turn to "on" it pulls from the longer of the two straws..once the fuel gets down below the top of the straw, you have to switch to reserve to get tha last inch or so of fuel.

What has apparently happened is, the longer "on" straw has come up out of the petcock, so now its running straight into the hole the straw used to be in, allowing it to drink every last drop of fuel from the tank when in the "on" position.

You will have to take the petcock off the bottom of the tank... you should see that there is only one straw with a screen still attached to it, if you shake the tank around you might be able to get the detached straw to come to the hole and get it with some tweezers and pull it out.

Once you have it, you need to glue it back into the petcock with some type of glue that gasoline wont break down... blue or black silicone will work, but you will have to allow it to set atleast over night to dry... might try some two part apoxy if you want to speed up the process.

My bike bike runs on main tank even on low fuel..it somtimes shows some missing. I think my reserve tank doesn't work.Any suggestions?

Check the reserve fuel line and the main fuel line to make sure they haven't been switched. I purchased a Suzuki Intruder and was riding all the way to reserve to check the mileage and when I ran out I couldn't start it even though I switched to reserve. Turns out that someone had the tank off to service the air cleaner and had reversed the two fuel lines so the fuel valve was running the bike on the reserve tank tube. so when I switched to the reserve position it was hooked to the taller brass tube in the tank and the gas level was already below it. The tanks just have two brass tubes, one taller than another so gas cannot be sucked below the taller tube when on main and then when switched to reserve it sucks from the shorter tube allowing the remaining gas to be used.

Where is the reserve fuel switch

You have fuel injection? If so, no reserve AFAIK. In the carb version, the gastank fuel petcock is the fuel reserve switch, the lever's normal position is straight down, reserve position is straight up, off is sideways.

Bought a 1995 suzuki gsx600f and can't get started. does anyone know which way the petcock needs to face for reserve right, left, or down? thanks

I have a 1990 GSXR1100. If it's the same as mine, which it probably is, then as u r looking at it REServe should b to the left. RUN str8 down and PRIme on the right. The petcock has small writing on it to indicate this.
