SOURCE: mercedes c200 elegance 1996 model mis-firing on cylinders 1-4

I beleive your firing order is 1 3 4 2. 1 and 4 are companion cylinders-meaning the piston is up or down at the same time i.e. compression and exhaust stroke both pistons are up and even on the exhaust stroke the ignition fires in order to burn unburnt fuel/ h ve you checked your trigger. There is a good coil testing tool that is placed over the coil and has a magnetic pickup that allows you to see if the coil is being triggered-just because you have power doesn't mean that you will have spark. I would replace your ignition wires and look at your wiring harness very carefully- if it is very brittle and you see bare wires exposed that is your most likley problem because the trigger is working for 1 and 3 and has the crank senser input for all for spark plugs and the cam senser is used for ignition advance and your fuel injection system. try wiggling your harness and see if your coils start to work. wireharnesses are a major problem on mercedes benz vehicles of that era. I hope I have been helpful

1998 C200 elegance auto, will not crank the engine over just makes clunk.

Could be a defective battery, bad solenoid, or even bad ignition switch. When I was fixing cars, I always replaced the solenoid when I replaced the starter, but your mechanic might not have.

WHAT IS THE FIREING ORDER OF 1983 V8GASOLINE BENZ

The firing order for an '83 Mercedes-Benz V-8 is 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2. And, here's some more information. If you are wondering which physical plug corresponds to the number 1, look at the engine's banks (it's a V-8, so there will be two banks for four cylinders). As you stand there -- you should be at the front looking toward the windshield -- the left-hand bank of cylinders are 1 to 4 (1,2,3,4) and the right-hand bank is 5 to 8 (5,6,7,8). I hope this helps.

Its possible the glow plugs when its warm the diesel is warm and starts more easily when its cold the diesle needs warming more so the glow plugs work harder in the winter only way i know how to test them is to take 1 out at a time turn the pre ignition on so the glow plug light comes on and the plug should glow red if not buy the 4 and replace the lot you could also check the wireing going to the plugs hope this helps ivan

Hi
It sounds to me like it could be a glow plug fault !
The glow plugs heat the diesel before it combusts. An easy way to diagnose this is check your exhaust after cranking on a cold morning if you have thick white smoke then you've probably got a glow plug down on 1 of your cylinders or maybe more
Hope this helps Nick

How do i get to the spark plugs in a c200 1998 5door saloon?

Wrong model designation ali. It's either a c230 or a c280. The 4 cyl 230 spark plugs are located under the red cover on top of the engine. The plugs are down the center of the valve cover under this cover. The coils are on top of the plugs. Remove the cover, coils, and then the plugs. If it's a 280 v6 you have 2 plugs in each cyl. The arangement there is more conventional. The coils are bolter to the valve covers and have short wires to the plugs that are on the side of the motor just below the valve covers. Be careful removing the metal plug connectors. They will pull apart if you try and pull them loose by grabbing the wire. You need plug removal type pliers. Twist the metal end and pull like a mad man, repeat 11 more times! Good luck!
