Is engine getting fuel ? Do you have spark at spark plugs ? How long ago did you change the fuel filter ? Did you just fill or add gas ? It might have been bad gasoline ( WATER IN SYSTEM )
yes fuel filter because you probably ran it out of gas you could have got the fuel pump to hot and burnt it up,(new Pump) do not know what year or model you have but may be relay or fuse as well (more info Please) !!
It is normal for the pump to run for two seconds when first switched on to pressurize the fuel system. It will turn on again when cranking and while running. I would still suspect the pump given your symptoms, however other problems could also give you the same symptoms. If it is the original pump from 2002, or more than about 7 or 8 years old, I would definitely replace it, and the fuel filter. Often the pump will go intermittent. I had one that I could restart and get down the road by hitting the bottom of the gas tank a few times!
Ignition Control Module is bad. When the dielectric grease used to mount them gets hard, they overheat and cause you to shut down. Really easy to install(about 10 mins.). I had this happen on two Fords. If you let the engine sit and cool down, they will fire up and run till that part gets hot, then itll die on ya. Auto zone sells this part for around 35 bucks.
You may need a new fuel filter. When you start the engine all the particles in the filter begin to dam up until they choke off the fuel entirely. When the engine dies the particles fall back down allowing enough fuel flow to start the engine and the whole pocess repeats itself. Thanks, Dana
