I have a 97 intruder 800 that ran fine until I fueled it up and parked it. The next day it ran rough then shut off. I couldn't keep it running. Now the bike won't start at all without starting fluid. When the fluid runs out the bike dies. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
SOURCE: starts fine. sounds fine but dies upon putting it in gear
Your kickstand switch is either broken or out of position. The bike kills the engine as a safety feature if it thinks the sidestand is down and the bike is put in gear while the engine is running.

Sounds like water in the gas.
ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors.
For each carb > Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side or bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.
Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Put the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

When you fuel up, try not to aerate the fuel. Let the nozzle dump the fuel over the hump in the tankto avoid getting it all aired up. Good Luck.

better check for the ignition coil for proper sparking or igniting of current in the comprssion chamber, check the ignition coil spark plug wire, check the spark plug, check for proper fuel supply in the flow system to Carbs, check for Ignition timing of the bike, or still you cant solve or still worried then dont worry better take the bike to nearest aurhorised Suzuki service centre for better assistance on this problem surely the problem will be solved.
SOURCE: bike runs but when i try to start it the battery is dead
Do a voltage test at the battery to see how it is charging, it sounds like it is not... You should charge at 14.5 volts. Start the bike with the voltmeter connected and see what it does for voltage drop and see how it recovers after it is started. If it doesn't come up in voltage possible regulator rectifier or worse case bad stator.
