it could be the switch itself, also check the starter solenoid under the seat. if those are both fine check the wires under the tank and make sure you're getting a good connection.
there are 2 bolts under the front area of the forward seat each side remove the 2 bolts lift the seat and forward to remove,then you will see 2 more bolts for the rear seat remove them slide the seat forward and remove it.
I'm assuming when you press the start button will not turn over. Look for the solonoid ( Relay) and you will see two heavy guage wire one goes to starter and the other to the battery terminal positive. Where the two wires meet at the relay jump with a heavy wire 10 guage it will by pass the relay if it starts your relay is bad.
Make sure your battey is hot bike in nuetral and clutch lever squeezed
