2004 Harley Davidson FXDWG - FXDWGI Dyna Wide Glide dies with the slightest amount of throttle

try cleaning the Air Idle Control valve...take your air filter etc off and look into the throttle body...in the 12 o clock position before the butterfly plate there is a hole where the aic lives...you can usually see and hear it move when powering the bike up.You'll need to use a torch to inspect it
give it a good clean with injection or carb cleaning spray and make sure it moves freely

After an oil change last yr my 2004 Harley Davidson Softail Duece FXSTDI developed a hiccup. It stutters/hiccups with the slightest move off or on my throttle. When 1st started it will hiccup then too

Hi, Lisa and the usual suspects are:
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition and leaking check for spark leakage in the dark.
3. Spark plug gap too close or too wide.
4. Faulty ignition coil, module, and or sensor.
5. Battery nearly discharged.
6. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
7. Intermittent short circuit due to damaged wire insulation.
8. Dirty air filter
9. Intake air leak.
10. Water, dirt, or rust in the fuel system, fuel pump and/or filter.
11. Old dead or bad fuel.
12. A faulty fuel pressure regulator.
13. Pinholes in the in-tank plastic convoluted tubing from the pressure regulator to the quick disconnect check valve.
14. Fuel tank vent system plugged.
15. The throttle body controls misadjusted.
16. Damaged throttle body or intake seals.
17. Clogged or faulty fuel injectors.
18. Loose, dirty, or corroded ignition module connector at crankcase.
19. Faulty TPS, MAP, CKP, O2, and/or CMP sensors.
20. Incorrect valve timing.
21. Weak or broken valve springs.
22. Damaged intake or exhaust valve.
23. The control module may be in limp mode.
24. Check for engine trouble codes.

My 1996 ultra classic has a hiccup at 3k rpm. Could it be anything other than air-fuel?

well it sounds like its air/fuel There is a transfer spot in the carburetor where it changes from the LOW speed mixture to the HIGH speed mixture but if you have to much air , it will burp and also if you dont have enough fuel, it will also burp. You can either try changing the idle air screw or putting in 1/2 size bigger pilot jets. good luck

I am running a 2006 fxdwgi with v & hines big radius and a k&n filter, had a scremin eagle fuel pack fitted by dealers, std harley plugs and braided after market leads. after fitting the fuel pack...

It sounds like your bike's fuel-air mixture is too lean. Lean fuel-air mixtures causes the engine to spit back through the intake and surge at the speeds you're talking about. You cannot maintain a steady speed at about 40 mph. I'm sorry but I know nothing about fuel injection systems. I suggest that you take your bike to a shop that has a dynometer and an exhaust gas analyzer. They can run your engine up through the complete rpm range and check the fuel-air mixture throughout the range. They should be able to make the changes necessary to get your bike running correctly.

Good Luck

Could be an air leak somewhere between the carb and intake manifold or between the intake and the heads.

My 2005 Harley FLSTC sputters and idles too low since changed the pipes and put a set of screaming eagles on

Almost any time you change either the exhaust or the air filter on a motorcycle, you must retune the fuel system.

If your bike is carb equipped, you'll probably have to go up one size on the slow jet and idle the engine up a bit. The idle speed screw is located at the top of the carb towards the front of the bike. You may have to take the air filter cover off to get to it. Changing the slow jet will require a partial disassembly of the carb. If your slow jet is a #45, you'll need either a #48 or a #50 jet.

If your bike is fuel injected, you'll have to take it to a dealer to get the fuel map changed.

Good Luck

1978 Shovelhead has a miss or backfires through the carb at slower speeds. Runs fine over 50 mph. Changed intake O ring gaskets, still pops and misses at slower speeds.

Make sure your hotwire to the coil is making a good connection. Check air intake manifold for air leak - o-rings can be tricky to get installed correctly. Finally, change carburator jet to richer mixture. Popping backk through the carb means lean fuel mixture.
