Tries to start but won't stay running/ I have already changes the ecu plus fuel pump and pressure regulator


Hey dale how's it going ? Before changing parts you need to test first , because it tries to start I'd say you have a fuel delivery problem ! What year, make an model vehicle do you have ? Are there any lights lit on the dash , check engine ,security lights ? Did you check for battery voltage at the fuel pump relay ? how about at the fuel pump ? Did you listen to see if you could hear the pump running ? Did you use a fuel pump pressure gauge ? Is the PCM - engine computer turning on the injectors ? Have a reliant fs1 phoenix pellet stove. Our control board isnt working looking for a replacement board

My lights are on for abs asc and my speedo and mpg have stoped


nornally abs and asc on mean bad sensors, but because of the other issues, i would say
hmmmm another wet ECU?
i don't know the placement of the ECU box on a series 5, but probably below the windshield passengers side access under the hood.

that boxed area can get wet and corrode an ecu to the point of failure (i've lost 2 before i discovered it). remove the ecu and remove the bottom plate on the ecu itself and clean gently the circuit board with alcohol and a tooth brush.

you'll know if it needs cleaning because it will be corroded and gummed up. that short circuits lots of components in the car and reports bad sensors that aren't really bad.

Intermittent fuel pump


normally the ECU gets the message from the pressure regulator unit , tells the ECU when pressure in the fuel rail is reached and the pump is not needed until pressure falls below a preset level

How to fix?


then just fall on it's face like the ECU lost power. Then it would fire right back up again. I checked the ECU power relay and it was ok. I checked the grounds. OK. I checked the O2 sensor wires. They were ok at the factory sealed ends. I found the fuel pressure regulator hose cut and capped off. I replaced it. Now it runs without dying like before but it has new trouble. It won't run at full throttle for long. Like it is losing fuel pressure. I checked the return line and it is gushing. Plenty of pressure it seems. Lines are ok and O-rings in quick connects are ok. Filter and pick up are clean. It seems that as soon as I hooked it up to the ECU it did this. Bad fuel pressure regulator perhaps? I know one of you Dale guru's must have some suggestions. I am a mechanic by trade and I need some assistance here. Just a suggestion, I have had trouble with intermittent shut offs before, and I found the wire lugs on the fuel pump loose, arching, and draining my battery.... Make sure there are star washers under all electrical lugs…,I just need space for a huge pod filter. I may look into side mounted radiators behind the fairings, a-la Honda VTR1000....,,
