2015 TTR125LE misfires at high RPM

2015 TTR125LE, changed the main and pilot jet to a larger size due to starting and idle problems. Starts right up and idles now but at high RPM's it seems to be cutting out/misfiring

have the map sensor checked to see if it is within range you say you have codes maf make sure all clamped duct work is tight and not loose clamps .iac motor clean bore if the pintle gets stuck will cause rough idle hesitation even no start conditions scan tools only test the idle air control valve motor not the bore that extends to block varnish gets built up on the pintle and in the bore wich binds the in and out operation

Ckean throttle plate inside throttle body...They tend to get dirtier than their counterparts in carbureted engines due to lack of fuel spray that kept them clean. If no luck with that, clean idle air control valve on TB. When doing this, don't turn the plunger, just clean with carb spray and replace. do not loose "o" ring seal.

I am going to have you do a series of things to clear up the problem. First come the basics >

Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Install a new STOCK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Don't be cheap, use a lot of cleaner. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean and dry the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. Set the idle speed with the idle screw. This process should get you back on the road unless other problems exist.
Let's say that the bike is no better >

  • How good is your battery?
  • Carb, head, intake manifold and carb mounted tight?
  • Does the carb intake manifold have reeds? What condition are they in?
  • Remove the flywheel cover. Take hold of the flywheel and, without turning the wheel, lift the flywheel up and down then left and right. Any movement or was the flywheel rock solid? If movement then the crank bearings need replaced along with the crank seals.
  • Speaking of crank seals, how old are your seals? The bike ain't gonna run with bad seals.
  • I don't recall for sure, does the bike have CDI? If so, have the dealer test the CDI and the coil.
  • If no CDI, when was the last time the points and condenser were replaced or points filed and set? Get the coil checked.
  • How old are the piston and rings? You could have problems there. What shape is the cylinder wall in? Scared up, low spots (you will not see the low spots without running a cylinder hone through the bore).

There isn't much more to do. You just rebuilt the engine.

One thing is to leave the IAC adjustment alone, you have a vachum leake betweent the mais air flow sensor or a intake leak.

My 2004 Vulcan Classic 1500 won't idle.

is the carb jetted? if so check to make sure it has the right size jets. too small of jets starve the engine of fuel, and too large flood it. also there should be 2 jets one main jet which controls the amount of fuel when at 1/4 throttle to fuel throttle and then there should be a second which would be the pilot jet that controls idle mixture (1/4 throttle and less) it's longer and thinner than the main jet with multiple holes for mixing air and fuel for idle. have them to make sure the jetting is correct. Also IF the engine had been bored you will need to use larger jets for the added volume in the cylinder chamber from the boring. aftermarket exhausts will also cause the engine to be rejetted but usually the sellers will have charts telling you what jets to run with the exhaust.

Fine tune your motorcycle before rejetting your carburetor. If it's still running too lean, you can replace the pilot jet as a first step

Remove the bowl at the base of the carburetor by unscrewing the screws holding it in place. Unscrew the pilot jet inside, but be careful not to strip it. The jet size will be on top.

Use a screwdriver to remove the main jet from the brass jet needle holder, which is also called the emulsion tube.

Put in a pilot jet that is one size larger. Replacing it with a jet two sizes larger will make your mixture too rich.

Tune the slow/idle settings before replacing the main jet. Replace the main jet with one size larger. The sizes are in increments of 5.

Put the bowl back on, and align the accelerator pump shaft and rubber boot.

Reinstall the carburetor on the motorcycle and retune it to finish the rejet procedure.

2010 ktm 65 bike hesitates when you give it throttle but when it hits the power band it takes off.

It sounds like moving the main needle clip position may solve this if it's jetted properly. Remove the slide assembly from the top of the carb, pull back the spring and remove the cable. There will be a retainer clip that holds the e-clip and the needle in the slide. Remove that clip and the needle will slide out. Note the original position of the e-clip on the needle, remove it and move it down 1 position. This will raise the needle in the main jet and richen the mixture on acceleration. Reinstall and repeat adjustment until satisfactory acceleration is achieved.
If moving the needle position doesn't solve it, a larger main jet is required. Put the e-clip back to it's original position. Remove the main jet thru the 17mm drain bolt in the bottom of the carb, note the size stamped on it and get the next larger size. A selection of main and pilot jets a couple sizes up and down from stock is always handy to keep around with the 2-strokes as they are sensitve to temperature change.
Always check the condition of the spark plug when making jetting changes. Start with a fresh plug and run it for 10 min at normal riding RPM. Tan is good, black is rich and white is too lean. A lean condition is really bad and must be corrected immediatly. Good luck!

I have a 2000 VS1400 Intruder, I recently took posession of this bike and its had cobra drag pipes on it for about 6 years now however the PO never jetted the bike, two weeks ago i installed a stage one...

take in mind the setting that they give you is a base setting somewhere to start to get you in the ball park. your rear cylinder going have larger jets then you front due to heat. and where you live is going to affect the jetting as will. this is how you fix your problem. first what is everything set at i.e. main and pilot jet in front carb, needle clip setting (from bottom) and air/fuel. write this down send it to me. next what color is the front plug, what color is the rear plug. what you want is nice coffee cream tan.
Now you can't base dynojet jet sizes ex. o.e.m main jet 150 you could have a dynojet main of the same size but the number will WAY different. I have asked them a dozen times if once why they don't was oem sizing to make things easier on us and all the say "our jets, our sizing" write this info down we will need it later. Get it back to me and we will jet this thing right

I am put a K&N air filter on my 2000 Suzuki Katana 600 (carburetors) it lags a bit when accelerating? I was told I should put a larger Jet pilot? #12.5 is the stock one in.I am having troubles finding...

Your bike came in at 80 HP, the 99 year model had 86 HP you can check and see if that year had a larger pilot jet. you are running leaner because of increased air flow. Excellent in you can get more fuel with it. You should be able to go up to the next size and cure your problem. Your Pilot Jet is 75% cruise Mixture and 25% idle mixture. Rule of thumb....
If you go 1 size larger or smaller on the size of the pilot jet, you will change the fuel screw ~1.5x richer or leaner to retain the original idle mixture - Dennis Kirk 6am to Midnight Central: 1-800-969-7501 tell them what you want. You can go online and search also, many items are not listed though. You will find a bucket load of jets on their site. Happy Hunting.

My 1989 yz250 has poor power when reved up even though i cleaned the carb. Also black oil ozzing from exhaust port at the cylinder. what the problem. It can idle

Could be a number of things...
Black ooze is due to being too rich. You need smaller jetting. (Pilot and main) You can read the spark plug for jetting, as you want it to burn chocolate brown.
Also, a carbon plugged exhaust power valve can cause poor high rpm performance.
A compression test will tell the condition of your rings.

I have a primary jet and secondary jet in the carburator of the 500 gl silverwing . and the jets I have is 75 and 125 which goes where . and what should be the setting on the air jet ?

The secondary main jet (125) goes into the jet needle holder in the center of the carb (needle). The primary main jet (75) is between the secondary main jet and the pilot screw (this one is slightly off center) . The start setting for your air screw should be 1 3/4 turns. Warm up your engine and drive for ten minutes. Adjust your idle speed to 1100 + or - 100 rpm. Now turn pilot screw in or out to get highest idle speed. Readjust idle to 1100 rpm. Now turn pilot screw in till idle speed drops 100 rpm. If pilot screw seats go to next step. Adjust the pilot screw out 1 full turn from 100 rpm drop point. Now reset Idle to 1100 rpm. That is how Honda says to set your air screw. Standard setting is probably sea level and going through the procedure will set you up for the altitude where you ride. Do the adjustment during good weather at the altitude you plan to do the most riding.

1984 yz 125 power valve how do i set it

You don't have to do anything It does it on its own as long as the pieces are all there. The power valve is the thing that opens up a larger exhaust hole for the two stroke engine. It is shaped like a spool and it twists as pressure builds due to high rpm. On the 1984 it is on the left side of the bike right up front behind the clutch cover.
