you would have to check Harley specs but I suspect coil is ok. You would not say there is no continuity unless the meter reads infinity. Anything other than infinity is some measure of continuity. 250 ohms sounds like a possible good coil reading. What is the problem you are having if ant

What would cause my 84 monte carlo 305 only fire on 4 cylinder

Bad pick up coil in distributor or worn shaft. The wires on the pick up coil should have 500 ohms to 1500 ohms resistance.
Move the wires and vacuum advance while testing, reading should not change. Then test resistance from one coil pick up wire to distributor housing this should be infinity.
Wiggle the shaft and see if there is any sideways movement.

Bike has no spark

Check your pick-up sensor located inside the timing cover, behind the adjustor plate. If the filament is not intact you will have no spark.
A defective coil, cam position sensor, or stator will also cause a no spark condition.
Ignition Coil Primary Circuit Test
Remove the coil. THEN set your ohmmeter scale to RX1 and place ohmmeter leads on the primary coil windings A (front of coil) to B (middle of coil), B to C (front of coil) and check for primary coil winding resistance which normal resistance range is 0.5-0.7 ohms. If primary resistance is not within this range check out test results below.

Ignition Coil Secondary Circuit Test
With the ignition coil removed from the motorcycle and the ohmmeter set to the RX1K scale place the ohmmeter leads on the secondary coil windings B (middle terminal) to
R (rear secondary terminal/socket), B to F (front secondary terminal/socket) and check for secondary coil winding resistance which normal resistance range will be 5.5-7.5K ohms. If secondary resistance is not within this range check out test results below.

Test Results
A low resistance value indicates a short in the coil winding which requires coil replacement.

A high resistance value might indicate that there is some corrosion/oxidation of the coil terminals requiring the coil terminals to be cleaned and the resistance test then repeated and if after the test is repeated the resistance is still high after the terminals were cleaned the coil must be replaced.
If there is an infinite ohms or no continuity) resistance value the coil is open and must be replaced.

I have a 1975 Harley SX 250 with a very intermittent spark.

If your points are sparking as it is running, replace your condenser. I would do that first anyway. You can put any condenser in it., A condenser is a condenser. Make sure your new plugs, points and condenser are all operating correctly. You have probably already done all that but it is all I can think of.

Lost spark on my 95 F-150. I don't have any spark from coil to dist. cap. How do I verify that coil is bad? I checked resistance from each input terminal to the output terminal - 8K ohms resistance....

these readings are accurate for ok. I suggest you visually inspect the magnetic pick up under the rotor button for crack or heat signs. these have been known to go bad and are easily replaced and I would recommend changing this part out first. good luck... chris

89 ford f250. I have power to the coil but no power out.

And no spark from the high tension lead? If so, test the coil by pulling off both primary + and -, pull HT lead out. Then check resistance on the + and - terminals, with the ohms function-should be very low ohms, like 0.5-1.5 ohms (check the specifications for your coil). Then check resistance between - terminal and the HT tower-should be in the range of 7,500 ohms to 10,500 ohms-somewhere in there. If way off range, coil is bad. You may need to check with a shop or repair manual for the actual specifications for your coil, but the above ranges are pretty close on most coils.

How do you check resistance through the heater coil?

To that defrost heater
set the meter to lowest ohms setting
follow wires that connect to heater up to the top of freezer coil
unplug the 2 wires for the defrost heater/or if on huge plug with all wires in unplug that plug
place meter leads on the the 2 wires for the heater
the meter display should be some where between 5-25 ohms of resistiance

if heater is good it will have contunuty with 5-25 ohms,if bad the meter display either wont change or display OL
if heater check good check defrost thermostat pictured below for ZERO ohms resistiance when cold and frost is built up on freezer coil MUST BE COLD to check. It too should have continuty with ZERO ohms resistiance

If both heater nand defrost thermostat check good the defrost control board will be the problem.

This is what the deforst thermostat looks, yours may be slightly different yet very similar and ina similar place(clipped to top of freezer coil usually on right side)oldtech2332_40.jpg

I was driving and truck just shut off will not start i have replaced the dist.and the enig.switch fuel filter and checked the coil i have no spark or fire i am going crazy trying to fix this problem so any...

While you was replacing the distributor did you look at the pick-up coil and module inside the distributor?? If not then either one of those two things will keep an engine from starting. The crankshaft position sensor mounted on the bellhousing will also cause the problem. To check the pick-up coil in the distributor with an ohm meter;remove the dist.cap and hook up one side of ohm meter to a good ground, and the other lead to the pick-up coil terminals Flex the leads by hand to check for intermittrnt openings. The ohm metershould indicate infinitr resistance. If it does not the the pick-up coil is bad and needs to be replaced. Connect both leads from the ohm meter to both terminals of the pick-up coil and flex the leads> the ohm meater should hold a steady value between 500-1500 ohms. If not then replace it. If it does replace the module under the coil in the dist. base. Hope this will help you.

Theres no spark in my spark plug on my trail boss 330 2004

I would start by checking your coils, the primary resistance should read 0.5 ohms the coil secondary resistance ( spark plug removed) 6400 ohms then if thats good check thepulse coil air gap 0.016 to 0.030 inch and the pulse coil resistance white/red to white 522 ohms and white/red to ground inifinity ohms and your spark plug cap resistance 5000 ohms. In the mix of all this I would also check that all the connections are tight. Good luck.

Dryer heat not working not sure how to check the heat element to see if the coils are bad or just the: thermal fuse, thermostat limit switch.

to check to see if coils are bad you need to do a continuty check. Remove electrical connections on the ends of the drier element. Get your ohm meter and ohm the element. If your element is good you'll get a signal, no signal , bad element. If the element is good then the problem is more than likely the hi limit switch. Good luck on repairs

How can we check the ignitor and coil ? what are the specs?

What engine do you have? You could still hear your fuel pump running but if you haven't checked the fuel pressure you may still have a problem with your fuel pump. You should be around 38 to 44 PSI when key is turned on not running. Did you verify you are getting spark or is there nothing to the plugs? Your ignition coil resistance should be (cold 9000-15,400 ohms) Primary should be .36-.55.
Your pickup coil resistance depending whether you are California or excluding California
California is
cold- pick up coil terminals G1 & G- Ohms 125-200
cold-Pick up coil terminals G2 & G- Ohms 125-200
cold-Pick up Coil terminals NE & G- Ohms 155-250
Ex. California models
cold-Pick up coil terminals G+ & G- Ohms 185-275
Cold-Pick up coil terminals NE+ & NE- Ohms 370-550 ohms
You also need to check air gap between PIck-up Coil & Signal rotor
California is .008-.020
Except California .008-.016

Here are some of the suggestions from Mitchell books:
*Ensure proper spark exists from ignition system
*Ensure Fuel system performs properly (fuel pump, Fuel filter, Fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator).
*Check engine compression, valve clearance, valve timing and timing belt (if equipped)
Check airflow meter or MAP sensor and wiring
*Check idle air control valve (if equipped) and wiring.
*Check circuit opening relay and EFI main relay.
*Check STA signal at Engine Control Modual (ECM)
*Check Engine Control Modual (ECM) and wiring.
