I have a Honda Shadow that suddenly began leaking water for the lower back engine area. Could this be a water pump or leaking freeze plug issue?

Hi, Craig I would really love to help you with your motorcycle question but due to the magnitude of yesterday's solar flare the batteries in my crystal ball are dead and my mental telepathy headset circuitry was melted. I need the year, make, and model of your motorcycle please click on " Ask For More Information" directly below and provide this information in the box that will open and then click on the green "SEND" box in the bottom right-hand corner after it posts I will receive an "ALERT" icon that will allow me to respond to your information. mmmmmmmm they are really hard to replace but most likelly is goin to be a intake gasket, i do recomend you to call arrown the auto repairs and ask for a pressure test to the cooling system
this test is not that expensive and will tell you exactly where is the leak coming from, but on this type of vehicles i badly see a freeze plug leaking.

SOURCE: Where are freeze plugs located on 1996 jeep

Is it coming from the top, Can you see? Did the car freeze or overheat lately? If not, it is not a freeze plug. It is a coolant line running to the rear of the engine, it has an O-ring gasket that has gone, It is real easy to fix, but you have to take the intake off to get to it. Buy the gasket kit, the seals/O-rings are off the shelf sizes, nothing special, and you will need a schematic of the engine so you can see where you are going. Check it out.

There is a round o-ring that seals the water pump to the motor (oil seal). Then there is a shaped cover o-ring that seals anti-freeze into the pump. The cover o-ring is also replaceable. If your pump has coolant leaking it is probably coming from a small weep hole in the bottom of the pump. Check where the leak is carefully, my guess is that the water pump seal is bad and you actually need to replace the water pump assembly. To see a break down of the pump look here.

Freeze plug location front of chevy 5.3 liter engine diag

Hello Richard,

There doesn't appear to be a freeze plug on the front of the block.
They are always located on the lower sides of the block.

If you can see water on the front of the engine do a visual inspection when the motor is off and cold.

Take a rag and dry off any noticeable moisture. Start the engine and let it warm up, carefully check all the areas listed below to see if you can isolate the leak.

The radiator could be leaking and dispersing coolant towards the motor while driving the car. A hose or fitting could be leaking. The intake manifold or thermostat gasket could be leaking. The water pump could be leaking at higher RPM's.

My 2000 Honda VT1100 C has leaked all of it coolant.

Fill the cooling system with coolant and run the engine. If the coolant is below the water pump, then you have to replace the pump (located on the lower left side of the engine when the engine is running, see if the pump dripping coolant). To replace the pump, you have to take off the engine.

How to fix my 98 chevy blazer overheating

First, see if the radiator fans are running properly and the water pump belt is on correctly and there's no play in the water pump pulley. Check the front of the radiator fins for clogging. Then check the operation of the thermostat. If those check out, perform a cooling system pressure test on the system and the radiator cap.

I HAVE A 1994 1100 SHADOW THAT IS LEAKING OIL FROM A NOTCH IN THE CASE ,UNDER THE OIL PUMP. THE GASKET LOOKS GOOD. IS IT THE OIL PUMP THATS BAD ?

You can not see oil pump (it is inside and it can not be bad), if you are talking about water pump, (lower left side), there are : round plug which sealing can be bad, or starter clutch cover gasket is bad.
