SOURCE: Won't Start

do you have compression? for a engine to run you need clean air, compression, good fuel(make sure the fuel has not been there 3 months or more as it will deteriate) and good spark as well as good exhaust as this will cause a back fire if the exhaust valves are not set right.

gravity bleed. make sure fluid is always full. crack open the bleeder screw and let the brake fluid drip until no bubbles. Then close bleeder top off fluid and replace cap. Now, pull the brake handle. If there is no pressure or has bleed down, the master cylinder is kaput.

SOURCE: have a 04 yamaha big bear 400. hard to start wont

I have an 01, and it started doing this. I don't remember the circumstances. It's just dirty in the carb I think.

1) Check for water in the gas.
2) Turn off the petcock and drain the carb. turn it back on.
3) Try it.
4) Start it with the choke on and put your hand over the air filter hole. Will cause some back flow.
5) Try again.

Worked for me. Might be dirtier on yours, or have mud in it or something.

I have a Yamaha big bear 350 4x4 I put new cv axis on both front still make grinding sound

If the CV Joints are new and correctly inserted, the most likely culprit for the noise would be the brakes. Remove the front wheels and turn the hub.

It could also be the front differential, or failed wheel bearings. Details in the link.

No start on bear tracker 250 just backfires

The timing is not adjustable. I would start with a clean air filter, clean carb, good spark plug, check and make sure that your cam timing matches your flywheel.

Or what swing arm will fit to put a motorcycle tire on it

No matter which atv model you have - take a look and measure your inside diameter for your swing arm. Salvage motorcycle yards in your area would have one somewhere - but the cruisers are shaft drive, too. If you take a look at some of the swingarm assemblies online - it'd definitely work - and worst case? A little bit of alteration - and if you keep your eyes on the like the Yamaha street cruiser swingarms - just a small drive shaft there in between engine and final driven gear - easily modified at any shop that makes or alters driveshafts/welders. These pics are from a 2002 Yamaha 1100 and a 2002 Yamaha Big Bear 400. If you look for a rear assembly your year and manufacturer odds are some of the parts will even be the same.

This is from the 1100

Middle Drive Gear for the Big Bear:

And here's what the swingarm and wheel assembly look like for the 1100:

It's doable. My dad took a 69 or 70 Volkswagen Beetle, cut it up, took the front half of the front fender and the back half of each back fender, combined them and on each side was a long fender with a headlight. He didn't want it to be a beetle so he called it the widow and painted the red hourglass on the back. The front end? That's the front bottom of a hull from an old jet ski. Foot clutch, shifter in the middle, electric mirrors, stereo, new pipes, Two seater and a paint job later -

Won best homemade or trike, etc. everywhere he went. Had no choice but to put the wheelie bar on it'd come up 18 inches if you popped the clutch. Sold it for just under $10k to a guy from Indiana who was down here for the Turkey Rod Run Antique Car Show in Daytona at the speedway they do every year. Saw it. Went home. Called my dad a few days later. Week's time he was loading it onto a trailer and hauling it back. I'd really appreciate seeing a picture if you get yours together. How to ajust the timing chain on Yamaha big bear motor a tv

You will need to find the timing marks and have the firing specifications to line it up. Most timing marks have the Top Dead Center position marked with a large raised triangle mark. Take out the spark plugs and use a pencil with an eraser to determine (by feel) when the piston raises all the way up the cylinder... this is the TDC position. Line up the chain so that the TDC triangle corresponds to the actual piston travel inside the cylinder. Once you have them aligned, dial back the timing the few degrees specified in the manual. Put the plugs back in and fire it up. It it sounds "off" then repeat the process, something wasn't aligned correctly.
