How to rebuilt petcock on 99 super glide - Super Motorcycles

most auto stores in USA sell carb or small pipe plugs
used by all techs, to close up vacuum ports for testing.
I did this too all my Motor cycles too, I hate the vacuum petcocks.

the leak from the connection will be a failed "O" ring that will be replaceable or it may be easier just to get a new connection

What do you mean by petcock? You mean fuel shutoff?

There is no rebuild kit, you buy a new valve.

Check temperature sensor

Fill it with oil until the oil just touches the bottom of the clutch basket. hould be a little less than a quart. Don't use motor oil, unless it is Harley's Syn 3.

Yes, the engine can be rebuilt, no problem. Contact your local Harley dealer and check on their "overhaul program".

In most cases, if you'll make sure the fuel petcock is on (this should be vacuum controlled if it is the orginal petcock), pull the enricher out, twist the throttle twice, turn on the switch, and push the start button. DO NOT OPEN THE THROTTLE UNTIL THE ENIGNE STARTS UP. Your carburetor is equipped with an ENRICHER. An enricher circuit works differently from a "choke". If you open the throttle even a little while starting the bike, you'll render the enricher ineffective. You must leave the throttle completely closed until the engine starts up. Usually the enricher is rich enough that the engine goes to a high idle once it starts. But, on the other hand, you don't want to run the enricher for an extended time as it will foul your spark plugs. Allow the engine to run until it warms enough so that you can keep the engine running with the throttle then turn it off.

To remove a carburetor, first turn the fuel petcock off if it has an "off" positon. Then take the air cleaner cover, air filter, and air cleaner backing plate off. Loosen the adjustment on the throttle and idle cables (the two cables). Loosen the nut on the enricher cable and allow it to come out of it's bracket. Disconnect the fuel line and the vacuum line for the VOES and the petcock. Now, rock the carb side to side and pull it out of the carburetor intake seal and guide the enricher cable out. When you replace the carb, always use a new carburetor intake seal to prevent vacuum leaks.
