Flooded engine.[/quote]

Could also be not enough fuel causing a lean pop, ignition timing not set correctly, faulty spark plug, lack of valve clearances or blocked jets in the carbs. Also Weak battery and blocked air filter will cause poor starting or lack of. If the bike has been stood for a long time then the fuel might have turned blocking the carbs but i doubt that, though it might be possible. With your poor starting you might of fouled the plugs in turn making it hard work to start. Take the plugs out and turn the engine over a few times this should force any unburnt mixture out the cylinders. clean your plugs and put them back in and try again

SOURCE: What is the oil capacity for primary cover on a 99 Dyna Super Glide

Fill it with oil until the oil just touches the bottom of the clutch basket. hould be a little less than a quart. Don't use motor oil, unless it is Harley's Syn 3.

Backfiring and bogging from starting off

Sounds like the bike is running a little rich, you need to add more air or less gas and lean out the fuel mixture which will cause your bike to have more pep in it's step and fix that backfire issue. Not good at all for an engine.

Honda XR125 L-4 3 month old battery, Bike has engine has started to die, exhaust goes pop (backfire?), engine cuts out all together, battery almost completely dead wont restart bike, starter just clicks...

put a volt meter across the battery terminals, should read over 12v stopped and rise to 13.5v with the engine running.
If the voltage doesnt rise there is a problem with the charging circuit.
Be carefull starting from a car, as this can cause damage to the bikes electrics, as the bike tries to produce enough amps to charge up the car when the bike starts, and overcook electrics.

99 cbr 1100 wont start

do a compreshion test on the engine as the backfire could have been the head gasket poping if the gasket has blown it will never start
