I have a 2001 Yamaha Yzf r6. It’s been making this crazy winding noise on the left side of the bike, I just took off cover and checked behind it where the stator is. After further listening closely it sounds like it’s jn the gear box. The noise happens in neutral when I rev it and in gear as well. It just winds down as the rev does. Any ideas?

Could be literally anything. I know the timing chain tensioner is very common to wear out on those motors and cause a winding/ ticking noise but thats on the right side. Ive replaced several on those myself over the years. You can try to tighten it manually the slightest bit. If the noise goes away replace the tensioner don’t continue to drive it like that.

SOURCE: Noisy 5th gear

but no there was definitely a loud whirring noise in 5th gear sort of like a very noisy bearing. The bike still ran in 5th but it was definately becomming increasingly noisy. When I changed down to 4th the noise went away even if I slowed to the rev range I had been cruising in 5th. Same story with the other gears, but the noise returned with a vengence in 5th. Needless to say I rode the rest of the way home in avoiding 5th. Any ideas? I suppose I'm looking at a gearbox strip? Could the noise be anything else? ,Had a similar issue with my 1000S, only 5th gear was noisy - a sound like a dry bearing -other gears were silent. Bike had done 70,000kms and serviced correctly. Had Barry from IME check it out. Turned out to be both 5th gears needed replacing - looked like the case hardening on the gear faces was eroding and pitting. New gears went in and the box properly shimmed and happy to say 6000 kms later all still silent in the gearbox department. Plus the added benefit of slicker gear changes.,,,

a jump box is nothing more then a battery with leads on it so where are you connecting it verses the new battery you put in the bike. that doesn't make since unless you are connecting the box right to the starter motor then it be constently running the motor untill you unhooked it. check all your fuses and examine all wire harnesses for damage, burns, or any mellting.

SOURCE: 2001 yamaha yzf-r6 with a running problem

Pull the slides from the throat of the carbs, Move the clip on the jet needles one notch lower, two notches at the most. Simple and didn't cost $400.

2001 YZF-R6 headlight runs 2 lights on low beam and only the right side for high beam. Anyone know how to fix this and make it so both run for high beam at least?

Sure that your just not hitting the switch the wrong way? sounds like everything is working correctly unless the left side has a bad High beam bulb and both are supposed to be lit for low and hi beam.

How do you fix carborator promlems in a 2001 R6

Carbies maybe needing a service, so to for valve lap and camwear. Plugs could be tired. Try better fuel or supplier, ethanol is getting into everything these days. Then of course the ELECTRICS !!

For Manual: Try this crew...just have to put up with junk mail for 12 days....Cheers.
