you have a short to ground somewhere. Look for worn wires, loose connections, any work recently done.

Sounds like either the battery leads are on the wrong way round, or the starter main cable is touching something and shorting to earth. Retrace your steps and check your connection locations.
Either that or its a dead short through the starter. Remove main cable from back of starter and tape up incase of short. then reconnect battery. If ok now then your looking at starter motor.

i have a 325i bmw convertible and by mistake i pulled the release bar under the back seat and detached the motor for the convertible and know it doesnt want to open or close the convertible
SOURCE: car will not start
Try running a wire from the little terminal of the starter motor to the Positive on the battery , Disconnect the little wire thats on there first. No need to turn the key on as we are bypassing this. This should cause the starter to turn.Make sure that if its a manual that its in Neutral.
If the starter motor turns then the problem is either the relay or the ignition switch.Or if its an automatic Transmission it could be the inhibitor switch .
Hope this helps
Cheers
George
