Varnish builds up after awhile and causes this problem..gas can go stale in less than 8 weeks if the bike sits for awhile...Go to your local auto parts store and buy a can of Seafoam...pour 1/2 the can in on a full tank of fresh gas...run the tank down as fast as u can...pour the rest of the Seafoam in the next tank of fuel...you will see an improvement...Would be a good idea to replace fuel filter after the second tank, any debris or sludge in the tank will be cleaned out also.. never run your bike without good air filtration, this is bad karma. K & N makes a good high flow filter. As far as motor oil...i recommend a full synthetic like Lucas... Mobil 1 or Vavoline...change it every 3500 miles.
Good luck, i hope this helps...please rate me a fixya.

Gas seems like its sticking and hard to stop

It could be the cable-not supposed to have a lot of slack. Try unhooking the cable from the throttle, start the car and operate the throttle with your hand. Does throttle operation smooth out? If still binding it may be the spring or it may be a gummed-up (dirty) throttle valve-look inside with the rubber boot off and watch the valve move from idle to wide open. If it looks dirty in there, wipe and clean it out as best you can. A good throttle body cleaner spray can may help.

2006 Yamaha YZ125, throttle randomly sticks. For no reason the throttle sticks we have checked the carb and it is fine, throttle has been cleaned. Do you have an suggestions as to what it might be?

I would check to make sure that the cable is not frayed anywhere that could make it stick. Also make sure the cable is lubed up good and slides freely. make sure that your twist grip on the bars is working good also.

How do you keep the throttle from sticking?

What I have done is to spay WD-40 between the throttle gas, feed several drops of 10W30 engine oil to lubricate the throttle cables and ensuring that the throttle is fairly lubricated around the carburator's throttle neck. Please give comment and rating if advise useful. Thanks

My hondA CR 125 2002 has a throttle problem, when i am riding it, the bike will run fine and kick over fine, untill the throttle just randomly sticks on. the throttle cable has been checked (all good) the...

Two things: First make sure there is some free play in the throttle cable. The twist grip should have a small amount of free-play, just a fraction of a turn, before the throttle actually begins to open. On the throttle cable, up near the handlebar, is a free-play adjuster.
Second, verify that the throttle cable is routed correctly. Confirm this by referring to the owner's manual for your Honda.
Both of these items are absolutely critical for correct and safe operation.

I was using my cruise control and when I released it I lost my gas petal only could coast. The cable had come out of the track. Is there something I can do to it to prevent it from happening again.

if the cable came out of the groove in the throttle it usually points to a partially sticking throttle, when it sticks and you release the pedal the cable is left slack and sticking out, when the throttle loosens the cable can come out of its track, make sure the throttle moves smoothly - that the cable runs smoothly in its sheath and clean the entire mechanism with a toothbrush and some alcohol/petrol, when its all clean lightly oil the mechanism and wipe up any excess oil.
If it sticks and does this again I would suspect the throttle is worn and needs replacing. But service the throttle (clean/oil) first and see if its any better.
Theres a possibility the throttle could stick open, if this happens (dangerous!!!) turn the key off one click to kill the engine but not lock the steering. Have it in mind before you test that the throttle could stick so you're not shocked if it happens and can turn the key one click without being in a panic.

Sticking accelerator

Two major reasons for this are dirty throttle body bore (clean with carb cleaner) and frayed throttle cable (replace cable)

Throttle sticks at full

Sounds like the return spring got squashed. Take the top off of the carb, free up the spring and, if it isn't broken, reassemble carefully.
Try it afterwards, if it still sticks it could be the cable.

Throttle sticking will not spring back to original position

g'day con Could be that gunk has built up between the twist grip and the handlebar . you will need to take it off and give it a good clean with crc or something similar.Otherwise you may find that the cable itself has frayed, these broken wires get jammed inside the protective steel wrap. This usually happens around the cable guides at the thottle or carburettor ends, pull the carb throttle slide, twist on the throttle and check for a smooth transition between open and closed. If it keeps sticking their is really no alternative to buy a new cable.CAUTION:Make sure you fix this before you ride,Otherwise you could end up in the back of a meat wagon(ambulance) and that's enough to make you CRY CON.....HeheheheHaaahaaa. regards....Flabbycat.
