Washing machine trips electric when fills with water
Hi, whenever i turn my washing machine on it fills up with water then trips the power in the fuse box, all the sockets go off in the house. When i put the switch back on so i've power again the same thing will keep happening, I can put the washing machine on drain and it'll do that without tripping the switch and will spin.I've checked the filter and thats fine, no blockages anywhere, moved the plug to different sockets and same thing happens, the plugs dry and hasn't got wet. any ideas?
Re: Washing machine trips electric when fills with water
From the symptons described, I would suspect that the heating element is faulty, disconnect the heater, and try it again, if it does not trip, then replace heater.

Thanks.

The modern fusebox contains two types of breaker; the micro circuit breaker (mcb) that replaces the old fashioned fuse and the residual current device (rcd) and which one trips indicates the type of fault.
The mcb trips in response to an overloaded circuit or short circuit and the rcd trips when current leaks from the circuit to ground.
When a washing machine does this there is a strong possibility some water has found a way to mix with the electrics. The first task will be to examine the power cord and then to remove whatever covers can be removed for a close examination of the internals looking for evidence of water...

When a washing machine trips mains out, it is normally the heater element that has failed and it trips after it has filled with water as it tries to turn the heater on to heat the water.
Hello,
It would seem to me that the heating element needs replacing from the information you have supplied especially as it performs most of the other functions like filling and spin and drain.
Good luck
No powerCheck to see whether power is getting to the washing machine. Is it plugged in? Has a fuse blown or is a circuit breaker tripped?Lid switchIf the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse
Hiya,
there is a few things that will do this to your electics 1st & formost if your trip switch is tripping off remember this is a safty device to prevent fire so ignoring the problem & switching the power back on to try again could run the risk of fire!!
when the power trips you will need to know at what point in the wash this happens if its when the machine is emptying then it would be a pump issue if the machine is emptying no problem then the issue is more likely to be the motor either of which would need to be replaced if you are having these problems.
on rare ocasions you can spring a leak & if water gets on the electrics this will also trip the power but this is 1 of the least likely posabilatys.. rest assured if the power is tripping off then your home electrics are working fine & to confirm all sockets run from 1 main fuse all lights run from a second main fuse then there is a few other bits that run on there on fuses too i.e. cooker, power shower etc.. remember always get a qualified electrician to work on your electrics to ensure the job is carried out correctly
