I think I over filled my gas tank and while at work, my bike sat in the sun all day and when it was time to go home, I fired up the bike with the choke on for 30 seconds, as usual, and gasoline was pouring out a hose under the gas tank coming from the carbs. I had to be towed home. Was this due to over filling the gas tank, or maybe a float stuck in the carbs. The bike is a 2007 Yamaha V-star 650 with 8,000 miles on it. Danny G.

Your float in your carburator is stuck closed due to old gas or if your bike is fuel injected then it is likely clogged fuel injectors. Check you spark plug for spark first and if all is good, start working on cleaning the fuel system.
Hi, has the bike sat for any length of time? If so, the carbs need cleaned. Regardless of what you put in the tank, they'll need to be removed and cleaned. Since the bike is 14 years old, I'd guess they're due.
I would suspect and look for any cracked or damaged rubber or other flexible type gas line/s from or to the tank, and where they connect to. That would be the 1st most probable location of leaks. Then the tank or carburetor/injectors.
from your description, i would sugest you make sure fuel is getting to the injector unit, remove the fuel supply hose.if you have spark at the plugs and fuel getting to the injectors you have isolated the problem. i would also drain the old fuel when you take the hose off and fill the tank with high grade fuel. bikes dont like old gas.
Has the bike sat for long preiods ??
sounds like the float is sticking..
Try and get some carb cleaner into the tub..
If that does not work you might need to get the carb cleaned and/or rebuilt..
If doing that - would be a good idea to do all 4...
Have you checked that you have power to the coil on cranking? You may also want to check wether you have a good strong spark at the spark plug.It could be an ignition module breaking down.If you have no power to the coil you may need to change the ignition relay. Its close to the battery.
