Did you jump it directly from a car or did you use a booster designed for a car or truck? Some car and truck boosters can be too powerful for a bike electrical system as cars need a much higher Amp rating to turn over a bigger, heavier engine. Take it to an Auto-Electrician or bike specialist to check the other parts in the electrical system. You might have damaged either the battery or another part when you 'jumped' the bike.
Thanks Simon, we just push the bike down the hill and start it that way.
Ok. I know rolling it to start as ‘bump’ starting. Loss of power usually means the engine is being starved of something. It would be worth you checking the basics on the bike. Is the engine getting fuel, is it getting air and is it getting a strong reliable spark? A Poor spark, restricted fuel supply or restricted air supply can cause power loss.
The battery is normally only used to start the bike and power the lights. If it is struggling and is over five years old it could be worth replacing.
When was it last serviced? A clogged filter or dirty spark plug could also be the reason. If it’s an older bike get the coil pack and plug lead checked as that can weaken the spark.

a jump box is nothing more then a battery with leads on it so where are you connecting it verses the new battery you put in the bike. that doesn't make since unless you are connecting the box right to the starter motor then it be constently running the motor untill you unhooked it. check all your fuses and examine all wire harnesses for damage, burns, or any mellting.

Checking the colour of the plug may tell you what the general state of tune if like for the bike, but the sudden stops sure sounds like ignition system failing. Fuel delivery still there, although it may well be flooding/overfueling for some reason when the problem occurs. I suppose you have checked the VIN (RM021000000000301 to RM021000000008715) just to be sure that your bike if not one of those affected by the recall. I would be asking the Yamagents to check for the mods/recall to be sure that whatever the solution is has actually been done to yours. The reference to wet weather would be inclining me to follow that up to the max. Sounds too close to the problem to not be it.

Ck fuses and wire connections first. If no problem seen, get bike running and disconnect the ground cable @ battery. If bike dies the problem generally is in the stator or regulator assembly not keeping battery charged. Bike will run untill the battery is too low to keep the ignition system energized and the bike will die. If it continues running w/the ground disconnected, the battery could have a dead cell which will drain the battery in a very short time whether it is running or not.

I have had the same problem with my stepsons zip 50 and have done all the usual checks. The solution is from a piaggio technition. Take off the air cleaner and housing, start the scooter and bring it to the point where the engine dies. At this point spray easy start or a gasoline spray direct down the carb intake. If the revs pick up, you have a lack of crank case compression and the most likely reason is worn oil seals on the crankshaft. It sounds odd but the worn seals cause all kinds of strange problems.
Thats 2 stokes for you. Hope it helps, good luck

Hi Adam,
Bring your vehicle to an auto parts or battery store. Ask if they could perform a 'Load Check' on your battery. This not only checks the voltage, but also the amps, as if it were under the load of turning your engine.
It takes a few seconds and the results are pass or fail. Fail means it's time for a new battery. Pass means we need to look elsewhere.
Comment back the results.
Hope you find this to be very helpful
