My 2005 Boulevard M50 runs well on regular SAE 10-40 grade oil without added detergents. I have been cautioned however not to use synthetics or synthetic blends as these may cause premature clutch wear.

What is the weight of the final gear oil for the suzuki boulevard M50? Is it 20W-50 gear oil?

NOOOO! Do not put 20w-40w in the final drive!!!

This bike has hypoid gears (beveled gears that create a sliding action across the teeth and therefore energy loss and a lot of heat). A 20W-40W oil will destroy those gears, it can't handle the high friction in the final drive.

You need an SAE90 Hypoid gear oil with a GL-5 rating as defined by the API (American Petrolium Institute) classification system. If you operate your bike in temperatures less than 32 degrees F (0 degrees C), you will need to use SAE80 GL-5 Hypoid gear oil.

I just baught an 06 m50 with 8500 miles on it. I am used to bikes with chains, chokes, carbs etc and dont really know what to do with this one. How would you recommend I take care of it.

Great Bike. Suzuki recommends Oil/air change every 6000Klms.(+-3700 miles)
Suggest you blow out air cleaner every 1000 miles.
No adjustment required on drive (Diff), I change the diff oil every 10,000 klm (6000 miles)
As for the rest, it requires no tuning etc, but will required tapped adjustment At +- 12000klm. I would check yours now (8500 miles). There are manuals available on the net.
Obviously check brakes /tires/ oil levels etc
For the rest, keep it clean and enjoy
