2007 Suzuki Skywave 250 type M not shifting

Have a Suzuki Skywave (also called Burgman) motorcycle 250 cc type M 2007 which is Tiptronic. the motor that changes gears is heating up for some reason, and no longer does its job!! when I hook up the scanner it gives me ''1861 motor system malfunction''. I googled it and found this: (P1861: Transmission Transfer Case Contact Plate 'D' Short Circuit To Ground ) Can anyone help me with this problem.

Probably a bent shift fork. Not good news. Sorry.

Call the Burgman dealer And tell them what I said. See if they agree with my answer.

SOURCE: suzuki burgman 650 won,t change gear

I had the same problem until I found out that when you put the Burgman on it's center stand, it pushes a small round metal pin (spring loaded or something similar) that limits the Burgman to 1st gear only. Some kind of safety feature, I guess. You can see the little switch if you put the bike on it's side-stand, get down on the right hand of the bike and look where the centre stand meets with the body of the bike. My switch was stuck in permanent "on" so I just pulled the pin to it's full extention with a pair of pliars, then cut it with a junior hacksaw.

SOURCE: Transmission blew on my Burgman 650

A good friend of mine had 2 also. Same exact thing happened to both..
It "might " be a good idea to get a "savaged" trani IF it has low miles..
To answer your qusetion - I think it is self evident that these tranies are good for roughly 30-k miles - infortunaltely..

SOURCE: Two Suzuki Burgmans Transmission failures...

A trained Suzuki technician should know how to dismantle the transmission. If he has to pull things a part to see what is wrong you might need to pay for this to get a proper quote. If the Technician is good he will leave it apart in case you want to go ahead, the original quote should then be absorbed into the bill if you do go ahead. If the Suzuki Tech is not trained then go somewhere else to find one that is. Suzuki Burgman is a tough little scooter, I know of one that has done a ride around the world and had only a battery and tyre problem, it had 20,000Km's on it before he left on the trip.
