You are going to haveto trace the line into the bike and unclip it from the harness. after that you are going to have to remove it from the mount and then you are done.

Did you accidentally break the plastic clips? These older bikes, the plastic does get hard and brittle.

What would be the symptoms of a broken wire on a neutral switch for a 1984 cb Honda/

No neutral light, will not start without clutch lever pulled in (and possibly sidestand up, if it has a safety switch).
If the broken wire is touching a ground, the neutral light will not go off.

1984 honda vtwin magna neutral light is on with key off. found bad wires at the starter selenoid so seperated them. neutral light off now but now it won't come on when in neutral and key on. I can jump the...

Check the main fuse. It is a 30A fuse, separate from the bike's other fuses. Also verify that the wires near the starter solenoid are connected correctly, securly, and are free of corrosion.
If the fuses are all good and everything is plugged in correctly, you may find that the ignition switch is bad - or has a melted connector on the back. This is a common problem with many Hondas of that vintage.
