Park Brake / Clutch Lever will not disengage. Mower will start, blades engage, won't move with parking brake / clutch locked on. There appears to be a small soleniod under battery area that has a white button that is depressed when brake pedal engaged. this unit appears to move out of place, also, belts for brake / clutch appear loose, though, just hit 50 hours, servoce needed. Need to get parking brake lever to release brake and allow movement. Thanks, Andy

It seems like you're experiencing issues with your MacAllister JE150/92A lawn mower where the blades are not being driven and the clutch is not engaging properly. This can be frustrating, but there are several potential reasons for this problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:
Check the Drive Belt: The drive belt is responsible for transferring power from the engine to the blades. If it's loose, worn, or broken, it can lead to the symptoms you're experiencing. Inspect the drive belt for any signs of damage and make sure it's properly tensioned. If it's worn or damaged, you'll need to replace it.
Inspect the Clutch Mechanism: The clutch is what engages and disengages the blades. If the clutch isn't engaging properly, it could be due to a mechanical issue. Check for any obstructions or debris around the clutch mechanism that might be preventing it from engaging. Also, inspect the clutch cable for any signs of damage or disconnection.
Check the Pulleys and Idler Arm: The pulleys and idler arm play a crucial role in driving the blades. Make sure the pulleys are properly aligned and not damaged. The idler arm should move smoothly and maintain proper tension on the drive belt when the clutch is engaged.
Inspect the Engagement Lever: The lever that you use to engage the blades should be functioning properly. If it's loose, damaged, or not connecting with the clutch mechanism effectively, the blades won't engage. Ensure that the lever is moving smoothly and engaging the clutch properly.
Examine the Safety Interlocks: Many modern lawn mowers have safety interlocks that prevent the blades from engaging if certain conditions aren't met, such as the presence of a person on the seat or the parking brake not being engaged. Check these safety features to make sure they're not causing the issue.
Check for Engine Issues: Sometimes, the problem might be related to the engine itself. If the engine isn't running smoothly or generating enough power, it might not be able to drive the blades effectively. Make sure the engine is running properly and doesn't have any issues.
If you've checked these common issues and are still unable to determine the cause of the problem, it might be a good idea to consult the owner's manual for your specific lawn mower model. If you're not comfortable troubleshooting and fixing the issue yourself, it's recommended to contact a professional lawn mower repair service to diagnose and fix the problem for you.
Did you disengage the brake. I sometimes forget to disengage the brake but when the engine starts to shut off i realize that I did not disengage the brake.
There are several safety interlock switches, all of which must "make" before the starter will engage. These include parking brake (on), clutch (disengage), blades (raised and disengaged). You might have to check each with a meter.
Make sure mower is disengaged. (See Engaging and Disengaging Mower in the OPERATING section.)
Lock the park brake.
For automatic models, put transmission shifter into center slot.
Parking brake - ON
If it still doesn't crank, cycle the safetys.
Parking brake - OFF/ON
PTO - ON/OFF
For automatic models, move shifter out of center slot then back.
Seat switch - Rise from seat then sit firmly.
If still no crank, check battery charge is at least12.5VDC. If battery ok, then likely a safety switch has failed or misaligned. Try rotate and hold ignition switch at start position and see if moving safeties allows crank. Move out/in seat, pull PTO switch on push off, move brake to off then back on. Other possible causes include fuse, ignition switch, relay, poor circuit continuity (power, control, or ground).
Zero turn mowers in general require the following.
PTO off.
Steering levers to neutral position.
Parking brake engaged.
A good habit to learn is; When a zero turn won't crank, cycle all the start engine interlocks. Move park lever off/on, steering levers out/in, PTO on/off.
And a simple basic electrical check is; With key in run position (engine not running), you should hear the electric clutch engage/disengage when PTO switch moved ON/OFF.
To set parking brake, you FULLY depress and hold the brake/clutch pedal, engage and hold park brake lock, release brake/clutch pedal. You may need to adjust seat forward.
Else... If the brake lock won't move when brake/clutch is fully depressed, check for obstruction in brake lock linkage.
There should be a lever/engagement clutch on the back of the mower. It is disengaged when you manually push it. It will have to be engaged again to allow it to move.
This is too late, but for the next person: There is an extension spring around the cable attached to the blade engage/disengage lever.
On my tractor one end of the spring had the hook broken off or it. Because it is around the cable it is still in place but doesn't stretch when you engage the blade (so can't pull the pulley out and slacken the belt when you disengage).
The replacement is a few dollars and can be bought on ebay or Amazon.
Hi,
When the mower is off and the clutch is disengaged you should not be able to physically turn the blade(s) if you can then you need to adjust the blade brake (look on the mower deck and you should see what appears to be a brake pad). Your owners manual will show you how to adjust. If you need a copy of the owners manual then I would suggest going to www.managemyhome.com and downloading a free copy of the manual for your mower (Need model number which starts is located under the seat).
Good luck!
