High pitched whining sort of noise which doesn't vary in pitch or intensity regardless of speed or revs or gear you are in. Doesn't start until you have been riding for a few kilometres. Stops as soon as you pull over to see where it is coming from. Seems to be coming from front left top of motor but hard to tell. Doesn't make the noise if bike is stationery regardless of revs. Doesn't affect power. Don't know if these bikes have a crankcase pressure valve and there's a pressure build up of some kind. Would love some ideas.
thanks

My bet is that it is actually coming from the speedometer. Try disconnecting either end of the speedo cable and see if the noise stops. If so, then all you need to do is apply a drop or two (but no more!) of oil into the speedometer-head bushing. Do this by removing the instrument cluster so you can flip it over - then put some light viscosity oil into the area where the speedo cable goes in. CAUTION; do not use more than one or two drops of oil - and do not leave the instruments upside down for any length of time. Failure to heed these warnings can cause oil to drip onto the face of the unit, making an unsightly (and un-fixable) mess.
Please let me know if this fixes the noise.

Hi Wayneman01,
I have the same problem. What type of oil did you use? Will singer oil be OK - that is sewing machine oil? Will a silicone spray do the job?
You sir are an absolute genius, a local expert reckoned it was my clutch even though it still made a noise with the clutch disengaged. Saved me a fortune. Thanks

Wayne is right. I had the exact same problem and did exactly what Wayne said and it resolved the issue. If you don't fix it sooner rather than later, the instrument panel will fail, happened to me twice. Considering it cost $400 to fix it, go with the quick oil fix!
