Try shaking the steering-wheel back and forth while turning the key. Also make sure the shifter is all the way into park. What sometimes happens is when you shut off the car the power-steering stops with the engine and the steering-wheel locks as it is turning, putting pressure on the pin that locks the steering-wheel.

Ok, this should be an easy thing. If the steering wheel is locked you need to pull the wheel as hard as you can to the left and turn the key, or if it is locked to the right you need to pull the wheel to the right and turn the key. This should free up the key and wheel and your gear shift.

Try turning the steering wheel (hard) right and left while turning the key. Steering lock , and ignition lock work in conjunction with each other.

Hello I have a 2000 saturn sl2 and steering wheel is locked. I can't even move the gear shift into nuetruel. Is there anything that i can do to fix yhis problem?

Can you turn the key? Some makes and models, if the steering wheel is causing tension on the key cylinder causing it not to turn, Sometimes you can pull ******* the steering wheel, one way or the other, to release tension on key cylinder in order to turn the key. Once you turn the key, steering wheel releases, hopefully.
If you can turn the key, turn to acc, set parking brake, step on the brake, hopefully then you can shift into neutral. That should bypass shift interlock. This info may be in your owners manual?

My jeep wrangler safari cant move the automatic shift out of park

There is a safety switch on the brake pedal and if it fails you cannot move the gear shift lever. Check under the dash on the brake pedal shaft for the switch and make sure it is not loose, disconnected, damaged or failed.

Ignition key won't turn, gear shift is stuck in park

Turn your steering wheel and turn your key at the same time. GM vehicles have issues with the ignition switch not turning when the steering wheel is turned too far to the left or right.

To start and turn the wheels without the key

Get a locksmith to make you a key. The steering column has internal gears that stop the wheel and gear shift from moving. the computer also has anti theft that will also keep the engine from running.

Ihave a 1991 tempo. when i went to start it today it would not shift out of park. the steering wheel still moves but the gear shift wont. any idea what could be wrong

Could be a faulty brake light switch, or the solenoid for the shifter lock.
You may be able to shift it out of park if you unlock the steering wheel but not turn the key to On.

Pulled into store . got back in my truck the wheels are turned outward. The key will not turn the ignition. cant move the steering wheel at all or the gears shifter.

I would say that the wheels have gone up against the stops and the steering lick has slipped in and been pinched by the steering column. Turn the steering wheel as hard as you can in the direction the wheels are pointing and then try turn the key. Rather **** the steering wheel than try to force the key - is is the weaker component. This is the obvious solution tho the steering/key problem and hopefully it ties in with the gear shift problem. Good luck!

Cannot shift gear at all from park position

There is an antitheft device in the form of a collar just behind the key tumbler. This collar is driven by a cable connected to the shifter. It's purpose is to lock the shifter and the steering wheel until the key is turned. These cables become stretched over time and require replacement. To get you going for now juct grab the collar with both hands and turn it counterclockwise, while holding it there you should be able to turn your key. The only other possibility is that your steering wheel is cut all the way to one side, if so turn it forcibaly in that "same" direction and your key will then turn also. Thank you, Dana I assume you've already tried pulling up on the shiftlever while turning the key.
