The light is an indicator of being on "reserve". Some bikes this is anywhere from a quart to a gallon left in the tank. I have two different Harleys and both of them the indicator light comes on at different fuel levels!
To keep from running out of gas I know I get about 190 miles on a tank on the highway (2003 Road King, 103", S&S570G cams, Ported HTCC heads, 10.5 CR) and about 170 miles on combination riding. When you see the light come on look for a gas station! As sson as the light comes on fill up the bike note how much gas it takes, subtract that fron you tank capacity and you will know how much fuel you have left when the light comes on. Take that "fuel left" amount multiply it by you MPG numbers and you will have a guess as to how far you can go on the remianing fuel.

Burning too much gas

the only true way to check fuel economy is to fill tank drive till 1/4 full do this 10 times taking your milage reading before each refill
that will give you your average milage
now if you live in a hilly area and your up and down all the time that will also throw all stuff out the window and in order to get what the manufacturer suggests vehicle will do for avg milage is to go at a steady 30mph on a very slight banked oval tack that is basically flat That is how manufacturers of vehicles get the milage a vehicle will go per gallon

Good morning, I have a pickup of 96 rav4 4x4 2.0 cc engine 3S-FE, 5-door and let me know what type of spark plugs to use please, and their consumption of gasoline per gallon thank you very much for the...

Personally i donot think you need to put the four point plugs in your car. That would just increase your fuel consumption a bit as it would be burning more fuel to give u the advance pickup. You really donot need that.Put single point Champion plugs, they are really good. Then Bosch, Denso or NGK come in line.get the distributor rotor clean so that strong current goes to the plugs and its all set.On average the SUVs the size of your car would give 7kms on a litre petrol in an average traffic city drive with Air conditioner switched on.You can convert that into milage per gallon.Milage generally increaes by 25-30% without the airconditioner.

I'm getting about 10Ml/gal, is this normal or what could be a problem for such a low milage???Thanks for help

Should be getting around 15 city and 18 highway average 16mpg combined, a tune up can fix your problems. Spark plugs wires, air cleaner, fuel filter all the basics.

My Garmin Nuvi 255w tells me that my milage is between 500-700 m[g? Why? I have my vehicle profile set at 14 mpg city, 18 hiway. Fuel cost $2.60

the garmin will not calculate mpg. The trip computer does show, speed, average speed, distance travelled, trip time, etc.

Mileage

an average of 14km per liter14km per liter is just over 30mpg. That could be because of fuel supply issues.,
