Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initial check would be on the fan motor switch. Temporarily jump the black wire to the fan motor switch to ground, the fan should spin. If yes, then the thermo switch may require further check/replacement. If no, check for presence / absence of IGN +12 on the black/blue wire going to the fan motor. To my recollection, the wire is fed by a 10 amp fuse in the fuse box.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Older model Commodore. Why don't thermo fans kick in?

You're talking about the electric fan on the radiator?

An electric fan only kicks in when there is excess heat in the engine cooling system.

Other than that, there's an electronic switch/sensor on or near the fan. If that fails the fan can't kick in when the engine reaches a certain temperature

What temp should the fans come on in a 2000 corvette

Usually fans come on when engine temperature reaches around 90 degrees Celcius. In cold weather it is possible that the thermo fans do not kick in. if the fans are not kicking in when they should it would be a sensor relay fault or the fans have given up the ghost.

Thermo fan problem

The process to reconnect the wires would be the reverse of whatever you did to disconnect the wires. I don't have a manual for this car, so I can't give you any more detail.

Check the relay for your thermo fan, should be in the main fuse box under the bonnet. Often when they heat up the fault presents itself. Other than that your thermo fan might be faulty.
