Are you sure that the battery is flat and the alarm has not gone into spleep mode this will give the impression that the batt is flat when you try to disarm the bike , turn ignition on and off to wake up alarm, press fob button twice then turn ignition on. if you do have a flat battery use a battery charger or jump start with a car . if alarm was armed before battery went flat then it will go off as soon as power is restored.

1996 Sportster Custom. Why is there no power to ignition switch?

I had same problem, found the Positive cable from battery has parted inside the plastic cover. the cable was broken, but was making and then breaking with the movement of the bike. the bike would run then stop, then would restart later, when running, the engine would sometime spit. replaced the cable with a longer cable , (it was at the starter end of cable that parted) bike working good now.
Good luck

Nightster wont start. indicators flash when igination turned on. Bike sat for 4 mths. Battery was flat.Recharged. Runs through the engine diognostics but no ingition at all.

Bikes and battery do not handle sitting time well probably combination weak battery old fuel and fuel gumming through the pilot circuit - try jumper leads to another battery or to your car you probably find it all comes good if you can just start it and ride it an hour or so

The battery that's in my 1993 883 Sportster is not the correct one. The terminals are not in the right place. Does any one know what the proper battery group is for this application...?

I tried the pep boys route of getting a battery...i would have had to put the acid in the battery and charge it.i wasted like $70 and couldnt use it. i went to Harley and bought their gel battery for i think around $80 , that was in feb. 2008!!though i ride my bike daily,i run 2 sets of blue l.e.d. lights and im still using the same battery. ive got over 4 years so far and it was charged and ready when i bought it!!

I have a 2008 victory kingpin tour. Had to replacemy battery, totally flat, no charge at all. Bike started ok, volt meter showed 19.3 volts at battery when running, settled to 14.3 after running for a...

yes , you have a charging problem in the voltage regulator
maximum, voltage is 14.5-14.8 volts dc regardless and at 19 volts that affects all of the electronics and boils batteries

How do I remove the negative battery cable to remove the battery for charging on a 2008 1200 sportster custom?

You can charge the battery without removing the battery. Find the large cable that comes from the battery where it connects to the starter. Connect you positive charger clamp there. Connect the negative charger clamp to any good frame ground on the bike. You can charge you battery using this method provided you battery charger clamps are not too big.

If you can't do this, you'll have to take the seat off the bike, remove the battery hold down strap, and then move the battery outwards so you can disconnect the negative battery cable.

Good Luck

Bike dies for no apparent reason. Then restarts seconds later

Sounds like its choking out. Mine does this at a high rate of speed. Check your jets.
