IF absolutely nothing happens when you hit the start button ( not even lights dimming ) then I would start by checking the safety switches.
If memory serves me that bike wont start while on the sidestand. The driver must be on the bike with the side stand up and the clutch lever pulled all the way in. Id start with those two switched first.

Check if your neutral light comes on even when the gear box is in neutral. If not you have a sticky neutral indicator switch. If your problem is a sticky neutral indicator swictch the way to get is started in pull in the clutch then hit the starter. The safety interlock to the starter uses the voltage from this indicator switch to allow starting in neutral without disengaging the clutch. This is a very common problem for the R259 (oil head R1100/1150) drive train.

It is a PITA to get to the, so I recommend you live with the sticky switch issue until you need a new clutch and have it fixed then.

Sounds like battery failure. Try hooking up a jump battery, or doing a full recharge, or better still take it to a battery outlet and have it checked,

I will need more info, but to start with did you reset the motronic after installing the new battery? Its pretty simple: turn on the ignition, open the throttle from closed to fully open 3 times. Then start the engine.
