The ongoing saga of my (now not so beloved) 77 GS750.....after sorting the smoke....replacement engine (cheapest option)....I have a laser 4 into 1, and have had various advice on carbs / jetting. Is it best to have standard set up, or I have got some pod filters, I have been told to put 130 main jets, but have read that 115 main jets and 25 pilot jets, or 130 main 17.5 pilot.......a minefield of advice
I have also read the GS doesn't like pods, but put pods on too....confused...me too. Any advice appreciated
I put 115 main jets in my 77 ge 750 and it will run but was told to jump up to 140 with pobs and 4into1 pipe (SM6) race pipe at the low side run 130 main and leave the stock pilot in. i rorde mine from NE to SD roude trip about 1300 miles got about 62 MPG with 115 jets jumping up to the 140 will drop the MPG but lets be real im not looking for MPG. hope this will help.
Well not sure if my answer will help or if its technically a correct approach but here is what I have going on with my 1977 GS750... Well I have a 4 into one pipes with a kerker exhaust, have stock carbs and pods installed... I also have a dyno electronic ignition that if I remember correctly is a DS3-2... I did the unthinkable with my carb jets... I got carb rebuild kits and after cleaning the carbs I installed everything stock except for the main jets I raised up to ? Well the question mark is for I'm not exactly sure because I personally honed out each jet by hand! By hand you say? Yes I actually had a buddy who did the first one using a reamer from a specialized carb cleaning kit just kind of guessing very carefully making the stock jet a tiny bit bigger. I then I basically tried to copy its size by taking the finest pointed diamond tip dremel bit I had and ground it down by running it on an old sharpening stone I had until it perfectly fit into the modified jet... Then basically used it to replicate the size onto the other 3 jets... I then had 4 jets that definitely were bigger and also were as Identical to each other that I could get anyway. Installed them and then move the needles up 2 notches, adjusted the floats to the manuals specs, and lastly adjusted the bottom and top screws on each carb to 1 1/2 turns out from fully seated (and I think settled on the bottom ones at 1 1/4) and Voila'! Runs like a champ! Fast and a beast!
Please buy a clymer manual before I report u for cycle abuse!!
