Hi there. Your problem is a common thing on all watercooled motorcycles. The coolant leaking out of the small hole( by-pass hole ) located directly under the water pump, is indicating that your water pump seal is leaking.
If the water pump seal leaks, coolant will leak out of this hole to indicate this problem.
There is also a seal on the same shaft ( called the back-up seal ) on the inside of the clutch cover to prevent two things from occuring.

  1. In the event of the waterpump main seal leaking, coolant will leak from the by- pass hole & the pack-up seal prevents coolant entering the gearbox.
  2. The back-up seal prevents gearbox oil from entering the back of the main water pump seal. If this seal leaks, oil will leak out of the by-pass hole.
You will need to replace the waterpump seals ( both main & back-up ) as well as the bearing that you will need to remove during the process. If you undertake this job yourself you will need to remove the clutch cover to do so.

I have outlined the cause of your leak & can further assist you if you intend to DIY, but I suggest you would best have a workshop manual to assist you in doing so.
Any further questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Regards Andrew Porrelli

It is very likely the water pump seal. It is always a good idea to replace the bearing while you have it opened up.

Over heating , antifreeze leeking from that water

Hello,

If your water pump is leaking from the water pump for sure that is causing your over heating problem. I am sure that most likely the seal is gone. There is a main seal in the pump, and those are normally the first to go, and you are better off replacing the whole pump, that trying to fix it. Once your water pump is replaced , the over heating problem should be fixed. If pump is leaking it does not have the pressure provided to have the antifreeze and water to flow correctly through engine block and radiator.

Thanks Mike

Water under my 1993 Buick Skylark and I don't find the draining holes

It is possible the water pump is going bad. They have a wheep hole that slowly leeks when they start to fail. Or are you sure it is not condensation from the air conditioner running.

Squeaking noise and antifreeze leaking....waterpump replcement perhaps?

With the engine turned off, put your finger up behind under the pump pulley. if you find antifreeze there likely the pump seal has failed. Otherwise, locate the leak source and make whatever repair is necessary. You will get a noise any time water or coolant gets on the drive belt. Best to look before going through a pump replacement to find later you have a pin hole in the radiator on a hose!!!

I put antifreeze in my radiator and there is antifreeze dripping from a hole under the bike at the water pump, what is this hole? Should it be plugged off?

This hole is to check the tightness of the waterpump axle joints.
No water should drip from there.
replace the water pump, or if you are fine and patient, replace the joints and the bearings of the pump axle...

the water pump is behing a metal plate that you you would have to take off in order to look at it. if you have the 3.5 motor and are losing water then thats where it wil most likely be coming from,

Leaking antifreeze

could quite possibly be the water pump. There is a weep hole under the shaft, when the bearings go, the antifreeze leaks out at that point. Try checking w/ motor off using a small mirror to get a look under the water pump. If u see corrosion, or it's wet, get a new pump installed. Let me know what u find. good luck countrycurt0
