Hi, I have a 1975 Suzuki GT-380. It only has 150 miles on it. Been sitting for years. Want to tune it up with new points/plugs etc. Have a shop manual and have set the left piston at 3mm before TDC. At this setting a full turn of the points plate right or left doesn't get the timing light (12 volts) to go off. I am checking the left points adjusted by moving the plate verse the other two mounted on the plate adjusted individualy. The bike's carbs have been rebuilt and the bike does start and run and idle after warmup. I just want to verify I am spot on. Right now the plate and points are pretty much in the center posistion of their adjustments. What an I doing wrong? Thanks for your help! David 503-628-0609

First of all, you want the light to go on, not off.
The idea is that the spark is supposed to happen when the points open.
When the points open, then the current is no longer being grounded away through them, and then you will again get power on the negative of the coil.
In theory the coil could fire when points both open and close.
But you can't operate the coil from when the points close, because it takes too long for the coil to build up voltage. But is can quickly discharge the voltage when the points open.
The purpose of the condenser capacitor, is to essentially eliminate the closing spark completely. So you only get a coil discharge when the points open, removing the ground connection.

have you tried fresh fuel. ie not the stuff that's been in the tank for a year. stale fuel usually causes problems with small 2 stoke engines, but it might be worth a try.

stalls, are complex, there will be no easy online answers.
but here is a short list. of stalls.
the answer too all is doing tests with real tools, guessing will be $$$$$$$

1: never tuned up. leads the list. (100 years in a row,btw)
2: bad cam or spark timing for a list of reasons. (timing lights)
3: bad fueling. (clogged fuel filter due to never do doing tune-ups)
4: EGR valve stuck open.
5: bad engine compression. (gage it)

tuneup means, reading and following the service schedule in the operators guide (free to get) and espically the 60,000 mile list. !!!

I have 1300000 miles on my Suzuki Grand Vitari year 2000. No serious problems. I change oil every 3000 miles. What should I watch out for at this age of car? Steve

1,300,000 miles? WOW :)

Most of the problems I see with these are A/C related. Other than routine service (brakes, tires, tune-ups, etc) you really don't see a lot of issues with them.

Needing to press apart 1975 suzuki 3 cylinder 2

There is a place that does snowmobile crankshafts in Greenbay Wisconsin called Central Snowmobile salvage that works with 2 stroke cranks a lot... They would not have the parts but they do have the tecnology to press the crank. I don't have their phone number any more.... Sorry.
