Kick stand safety shut down, once bike warms up it shuts off if kick stand is down

  • Anonymous Feb 22, 2010

In order to let your bike warm up, it should idle in neutral with kick stand down! No? When you put it in gear it will shut down if the bike is in gear and the stand down? Mine idles in neutral with stand down and then shuts off after warm up while I am in the house waiting. I guess what I don't understand is that there is a control for this? that can be adjusted?
    Thanks. Sorry I don't understand.

The bike is supposed to shut down if the kick stand is down. It is a safety feature designed to prevent starting out with the stand down, which can be very inconvenient on your first left turn. If you are saying the bike runs with the stand down when cold, then the switch must be in need of adjustment. Please rate my answer.

Did I miss something? I figured on a higher rating.

I assumed you were with the bike and in gear. My bad. If the bike is warming up with stand down ( in neutral ), and then it dies when warmed up, the side stand is not the problem. The float level in the carbs may be set too low. Stay with the bike the next time you warm it up. Don't use the stand, hold the bike upright. Did the problem go away?

JUST REPAIRED BROKEN WIRE LEADING TO MY KICKSTAND BIKE WILL START IN NUTRAL BUT SHUT OFF WHEN PUT IN GEAR ALSO IM HAVING PROBLEM WITH BATTERY NOT RECHARGING ON THE BIKE

Your bike apparently has a safety mechanism where the engine shuts off while in gear, if the side stand is extended. The wire you fixed may not have been fixed properly. There is a switch at the end of that wire which senses the kick stand position. See if that switch is working properly. You can bypass the switch by shorting the wire, but remember it's a safety mechanism and it's better to keep it fixed.

Check for the safety switches. You don't say the make and model. They usually have them on the clutch and the stand.

My bike is warmed up, running perfectly, I pull the clutch in and the second I click it into gear the bike shuts off. I put it into neutral and start it again and once again it shuts off when I put it...

Is you're side stand completely upright, it sounds as if your safety switch is sticking on your stand wd40, both stand and switch, wipe any residue wd40 of any rubber asit rots it

When I release the clutch starting out it stalls in 1st gear

check your side stand safety switch. if the kick stand is down the engine will shut off. if this switch is stuck then the bike thinks the kick stand is down. clean out the switch.

Engine dying

Check your kick stand sensor if it's unplugged then there is your problem. If it's still plugged in then the sensor might be gone. The sensor shuts the bike down if you try to take off when the kick stand is down. you can bypass the sensor by jumping the two wires before the sensor with a piece of wire connecting the two leads together. doing so will allow the bike to be put into gear with the kick stand down so always check it so you won't have an accident.
