2001 suzuki drz 400, spark seems good and fuel flows to the carb.wont stay idel or start with out the choke pulled out and as soon as i push the choke in it stalls

Yes fuel flow, choke on, dirty air cleaner, bad spark plug, bad coil, although they normally fail completely, plug wire sparking to chassis, timing not advancing (low power), sticky valves. That is all I can think of right now.
If it revs and then cuts out=flow if it does not tack up(under load) at all carb is . Check for stopped up high speed jets. Ken
hi normaly this indicates a fuel problem, as the machine wont run properly without the choke you poss have a blocked jet in the carb or something, when you put the choke on the fuel is then pulled up, as the choke flap has closed of the air flow the natural thing is the vachume will pull up exsess fuel, this is fine until your engine becomes hot then the engine will start to run rough as a result of the overfueling, with respect of the spark plug if the engine runs the chances are the plug is fine, however overfueling will eventualy contaminate the plugs causing poor starting, with extreme care feel the exhaust pire from each cylinder where it comes out of the cylinder head, if it is hot then the spark plug is working just to reiterate you must ware a heat proof glove or wait till the engine has cooled down a bit before placing your hand near to the exhaust to avoid severe burns.
You only have 2 ways to go......1. fuel .....2. spark, if your cranking your bike, first off try this. crank it with no choke . if nothing happens , take your choke pull it all the way out, now crank it.
if it fires, push choke half way in, continue to crank, it should start . If nothing happens a all .
You have to pull out spark plugs, look at them closely . Is it soaked with gas ? or is it dry as a bone ? if it is soaked with gas, clean it up and dry it off, now check your gap it should be alright
but just check it anyways if the gap is to much it will not fire inside the cyclinder, if it is closed
to much it will not fire . take your plug put it back in just the plug wire and rest it up against the
head or any metal surface, now crank your bike if it has a good blue spark your good with the
electrial check both plugs same way . Now if that is ok , then you have to move on to the fuel.
if you have new clean fuel, good , if it is old like lat years get rid of it . drain everything tank and
all of your fuel filters replace, make sure all of your lines are flowing and carb will clean them self.
give it a little bit after it starts running be gentle with let everything catch up. If it needs final
adjustment on carbs take it back to who ever rebuilt them . Good Luck
Make sure you are using the choke - which is actually not a choke, but a fuel enrichment circuit in the carburetor. The lever is located down on the carburetor. Also, you can try draining the fuel from the carburetor float bowl. Sometimes, just enough water will collect in there to make it difficult to start when cold.
If 2 stroke check crank seals, check plug cap for proper resistance,check for good fuel flow to carb.Spark should jump at least a 1/4" gap,NOT JUST the .030 or plug gap.
