I have a 1983 Honda VT500FT V-twin Ascot and I have been unable to locate a carb rebuild kit for it. (This bike has the same carbs as the VT500C Shadow.) I'm trying to clear up a slight hesitation and I have done all of the other tune-up/adjustment type stuff to no avail. I don't want to tear apart the carbs without having a rebuild kit in hand, but I can't seem to find anyone who offers one. Any suggestions ?

I actually did find and look at Bike Bandit before inquiring through FixYa. The problem I have with them is that first of all, their parts diagrams are very scratchy and hard to read, so it is not real clear what you are getting with each part number. Also, they sell everything individually, which makes the cost much higher than I can afford to pay. I'm really looking for an all-inclusive kit....at a reasonable price of course ! Somebody out there has to sell such a thing.
totally ancient post but for others please note that generally a "carb rebuild kit" is not only not needed but very likely will be sub standard and might not even have the right jets in it ....just take carefully apart and clean it completely ....make sure all tiny orifices are clear using strand of fine copper wire from unraveled lamp cord ...japanese carb float gaskets last damn near forever and anyway are not what keeps carb from leaking ...that is the float valve ....gasket basically keeps dirt out ...worse case you have to"hot dip" stripped carb body and maybe replace the needle/seat for float ....can almost always clear clogged jets ...rebuild kits are all aftermarket and many are CRAPA and frankly not needed anyway...IMHO
