NTLDR is missing means what?

NTLDR (NT Loader) is a crucial part of your Windows OS
Without it your system cannot boot up.

This tells me your OS is corrupted and possibly beyond repair.

If you have a Windows installation disk you could try booting up with it on and attempt a repair install. If that doesn't work your only other option is to reinstall Windows

I have an Acer Aspire 3630 and when I turn it on, it comes up with a message saying "NTLDR is missing Press any key to restart". Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this, I do not have any CDs etc

It has to do with your operating system. The NT loader file is missing that's why it won't boot. You can download NTLDR or the best way is to reformat you laptop.

Ntldr is missing on my sylvania g-netbook.I do not have BIOS password to re-setup OC(Windows XP).Can you help me

NTLDR is short for NT loader - a program loaded from the hard drive boot sector that displays the Microsoft Windows NT startup menu and helps Microsoft Windows NT load. So when it goes missing for some reason, your windows cannot load.It may be caused by windows trying to boot from a different media than C:. ensure that there is no removable disks before you proceed.
  1. Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
  2. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
  3. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
  4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
  5. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
  6. Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter.I have use "e:" here. This letter may be different on your computer.

    copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
    copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\
  7. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

I installed a new asus motherboard in a computer and I get the message NTLDR missing. What does NTLDR mean? Ed

It's referring to a file on the hard drive. You'll need to reinstall the operating system in order to make your hard drive work with this new motherboard. If you have files on the hard drive that you need saved, make sure you back them up BEFORE installing Windows or you will lose them!

Nltdr missing

How To: Fix "NTLDR is missing"

Applies to: Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP

Symptoms

When you start your computer, you receive the error message "NTLDR is missing. Press any key to restart."

Cause

The error message "NTLDR is missing" means that the Windows boot loader (NT Loader, NTLDR) cannot be found. This oftenoccurs when the computer tries to boot from a drive other than the one Windows is installed on, due to a change in the driveconfiguration or because you left a bootable disk in a removable drive. But it may also be because the NTLDR file has beencorrupted or deleted.

SolutionCheck the boot drives

First, check the boot drives to make sure that the computer is not trying to boot from a different drive to the one thatcontains Windows.

  • Check that there are no CDs or DVDs in the CD/DVD drives.
  • Check that no removable drives are plugged in to the USB ports.
  • Check the boot order in the BIOS Setup to ensure that the computer boots from the drive containing Windows before any other bootable devices.

If this does not resolve the problem, you will have to repair the NT boot loader.

Fix NTLDR

The easiest way to fix the "NTLDR is missing" error is to use Spotmau PowerSuite. However, if your computer is using Windows XP and you have a Windows XP installation CD you may be able to boot from this anduse the Recovery Console to fix NTLDR manually instead.

Use Spotmau PowerSuiteInsert the Spotmau PowerSuite CD and start the computer. The main menu will appear.spotmau-2.gif
  • Click 2. Windows Recovery.

I have a gateway laptop (no cd, preloaded) Keep

Your missing the file from the nt detect application on the C: drive You will need to obtain a good copy of windows or find an OS that you can work around it with. I would try using Ubuntu as a live session disk and replacing the corrupted nt detection files from a disk or website.

this might help you

What is NTLDR error sir?

NTLDR (abbreviation of NT Loader) is the boot loader for all releases of Microsoft's Windows NT operating system up to and including Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. NTLDR is typically run from the primary hard disk drive, but it can also run from portable storage devices such as a CD-ROM, USB flash drive, or floppy disk. NTLDR can also load a non NT-based operating system given the appropriate boot sector in a file.
NTLDR requires, at the minimum, the following two files to be on the system volume:
  • NTLDR, which contains the main Boot loader itself
  • boot.ini, which contains configuration options for a boot menu.

This error means that NTLDR is missing somehow from your computer, hard disk problem, virus.etc
You can go to that page and follow the instructions exacty as he says and your problem will gone:)

What is NTLDR

NT Loader (NTLDR) is a small piece of software loaded from the boot sector of your primary hard drive that helps your operating system start.

If you have multiple operating systems installed and properly configured, NTLDR will show a boot menu when your PC starts, allowing you to choose which operating system to start.
