if you are just changing the grips, try to blow some air (with a compressor) into the end of it, they are held onto the throttle sleeve with glue. if you dont care about the old ones just cut them off but be careful to not slice thru the throttle sleeve inside
City driving 3000 to 5000 miles depending on how dirty it gets.Highway driving (touring) 4000 to 6000 miles. A clean air filter will help extend the the life of your oil (runs leaner less carbon)
Assuming the engine is burning oil and not leaking it out, the most common cause is wear on the piston rings. Somewhat continuous light smoke indicates rings. A puff of smoke when starting up the engine or pulling away from a stop sign indicates worn valve guide seals.
