Removing a baffle will not harm the engine.

The muffler and baffel are not meant to be separated. Removing it will butcher up the muffler. The removal will allow a nice sound to some, a noisy intrusion to others. The question asked was would it harm the engine. No, it won't harm the engine. The reality is that few will like the noise and even fewer buyers looking to buy a used bike will want one with a $350 muffler that doesn't muffle. Why not remove the muffler, set it aside, then replace it with a straight pipe? Now the muffler is not damaged and the sound will be even better.

Look at it this way, you can spend $70 for a straight pipe or $350 for a new muffler ( if you can still find one when you want to sell the bike ). The other option is leaving it as is and be happy with a quiet engine. Best wishes.

Just Google " motorcycle salvage suzuki " and get a muffler assembly from a wrecked bike then take a hacksaw and cut off the muffler part. A local bike shop may have a junk assembly. Check around.

Power and revs

Sounds like it is running very lean. Look for a plugged filter at the tank fuel tap or maybe an 'inline' filter. Make sure the air filter and the exhaust system are not plugged. Did you tear the carburetor down and blow out all passages with compressed air when you cleaned it? Don't blow into the fuel inlet with compressed air as it will crush a metal float. (don't ask how I know this!) Hope this helps!

Cleaning my baffles

Just about any solvent will work. Just remeber it must be completely try before you install and fire it up. Seriously if any solvent remains you could have a really bad week. You can use acetone, again be really careful. Hope this helps.

I want to clean the baffles on the exhaust of my 2002 suzuki

hi your exhaust is a sealed item, also your bike is a 4 stroke, why would you need to clean the baffles?only reason these would block up is if you are burning oil,if you are then i would think about a top end overhaul
