So i was riding my 2002 r6 one day and it decided to die on me, i was later told that my stator was shot, so i replaced the stator and found out that my battery was shot also. i tried to jump start it and when i took the jumper cables off the bike died, i thought the stator is supposed to keep the bike runnin once started even if the battery is dead. so do i just need a new battery or is there something else that could b causing my bike to die

you need to check for a short if its not that then it could be your altinator or a regulator box

Hi there!
dont give up on it yet. the CDI costs much! This sounds like a wiring problem. I've had the same problem before but i checked and traced the wiring and found out that the positive lead wire is making contact with the chassis.. due to vibration and just, it must have eaten the insulator. Check on this part. Also, make sure that your carb jets and spark plugs are clean.
-hope this gives you an idea.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Offhand, even if the the stator / charging coil is defective or for that matter even the regulator, the bike should start and run on a fully charged battery. The only problem would be that the bike would die eventually. If haven't been tried, have the battery load tested not just voltmeter test.
Please postback after the load test. Hopefully by then, I would have the wiring diagram.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

This is a simple repair. Just remove the left side cover and the stator comes out with the cover. The stator is bolted to the cover on the inside.
Could you take a moment to rate my answer? Thanks!
