I have a 2007 triumph bonneville with 4700 miles. My front brake shudders rhythmically when I brake hard. It does stop me but it feels like the abs on a car. What can I do please?

My front brakes would pulsate. I replaced the front disc because it had warped but after 10000kms I had to do it again. After a lot of research I finially got the right answer from a brake disc technician. The hub was warped and needed to be machined, otherwise the disc would end up doing the same. He also replaced the front disc with a floating disc. So far (5000kms) the problem hasn't returned!

id check your caliper to see if the piston is compressing all the way if not check your fluid it should be clean not brown or if you have been through large amounts of water if it has gotten into the brake system and check your bleeder valve to check if it has rotted or come lose or if you have a break in the lines or air, most likely your caliper is failing to compress.

If the problem is due to warped brake discs, you will typically feel a mild pulsing in the peddle when braking firmly. Also, when you are experiencing this shudder, taking your foot off the brake (when safe to do so) should cause it to stop. If that is not the case, I would consider again the transmission. I am on my second Caravan, so I speak from experience. The Caravan transmission should have the fluid changed every 30,000 miles to keep it in top performance, especially if you are carrying any heavy loads or pulling a trailer. When you are slowing to a stop, the transmission must downshift through each of the gears. If it stays in the higher gears at too slow a speed, you will feel a shudder. Sometimes this can be corrected by changing the transmission fluid. Be sure to use the proper Chrysler fluid for your transmission. Typically it is the highest (overdrive) gear that causes the shudder. You can determine this by moving the gear selector from "D" to "3" when you are experiencing the shudder. Other possibilities are alignment, worn stabilizer bar bushings, worn ball joints, and out-of-round tires. Most of these also involve some accompanying noises though. Good Luck.

My brakes shudder but no abs light

Common problem with GM trucks is abs kicks in when not wanted. Just pull the ABS fuse out and eliminate it.

What causes brakes judder

Unplug the harness plug to the ABS module under the hood and see if shuddering stops. You will still have an ABS light on the dash but it should not effect normal braking. If shuddering stops the ABS module is bad, also check for any kinked brake lines resulting from accident. Be careful when working with brakes, no excessive speed and be ready to apply hand brake.

When you replaced your brake pads did you also replace your rotors??? If you haven't replaced them, I can almost guarantee your rotors are warped and need replacing. Anytime you replace brake pads, replace the rotors as well. That's what i reccomend!

ABS brakes shudder

YOU NEED A SCANNER TO MONITOR THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. THE ABS IS SENSING A SKID AND THE ABS IS ACTIVATED WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THERE MAY BE A CODE FOR THE HUB THAT IS CAUSING THE ABS TO ACTIVATE.

CHECK THE WIRES FROM THE SENSORS FOR BREAKS OR CHAFFING. AN OHM READING OF THE SENSOR SHOULD BE 850-1200 OHMS, AND AND A-C VOLTAGE READING SHOULD BE 100 MV WITH YOU TURNING THE WHEEL BY HAND.
