Hi Fred

In short.... NO... there should not be oil in the alternator. You will have a failing seal on the output shaft from engine to the alternator. These seals can sometimes be changed without splitting the crankcases, but sometimes not. You will need a puller to get the rotor off and access to the shaft/seal to see what is going on.

This may be a job for a repair shop if you have not done this sort of work before. There are some tools required, and the engine will need to be removed from the frame if a new seal cannot be fitted without splitting the crank case.

robotek

Park the Honda Foreman on flat ground and leave the engine running for 5 minutes to allow the engine to warm up. Place the oil drain pan under the crank case drain plug. Turn the engine off.

    • 2
Remove the drain plug from the under side of the crank case using the ratchet set. Allow the engine oil to drain into the oil pan. Replace the plug to the bottom of the crank case and tighten the plug using the ratchet set.

Remove the small screw from the side of the crank case using the Allen wrench. Remove the cap labeled "OIL" from the top of the crank case. Insert the funnel into the hole where the oil cap was.

    • 4
Pour Honda 4-stroke engine oil into the funnel until the oil starts to come out of the hole where the small screw was on the side of the crank case. Once the oil starts to come out of the hole, stop pouring and replace the screw. Remove the funnel and replace the oil cap to the top of the crank case.

New Alternater will not charge batery

When you touch the hot wire to the manifold you may have damaged your alternator. Take your Blazer to your local car service center such as Advance auto and have them run a test to make sure your rebuilt alternator is charging. Most centers will do this free of charge.
