My 2001 yamaha 1100 v-star custom has a hard time starting.

My 2001 yamaha 1100 v-star custom has a hard time staring. The battery is only 2mo old I had the starter clutch replaced 1.5yr ago but not the starter its self and the bike has 37k on it. It sounds weak when trying to turn over like theirs just not enough power is this electrical or does the starter probally need to be replaced.

SOURCE: 2002 Yamaha V-Star Classic 1100 Will not run over 70 MPH

Hi,
The first thing you need to check is the air filter. Sometimes critters can get into the airbox when a bike sits for awhile. Sounds crazy, but it has happened to me. If nothing is blocking the filter, give it a quick clean since you have it out.
Next things to check:
Faulty diaphragm
Improperly adjusted fuel level
Clogged or loose main jet
Faulty fuel pump
You may not be able to check these on your own, but these are the next likely culprits.
Hope this helped

SOURCE: where is the oil filter on my yamaha V-star 1100

On the right side of the bike (right side when ou are sitting on it) just above the rear brake lever behind a small circular plate. remove the plate and the oil filter is inside (you will easily see it). Warning---on these bikes you have to drop the front exhaust header and right floor board in order to change the oil filter unless you install a after market oil filter relocation kit. If you plan on changing your own oil it is highly recommended to install this relocation kit.

SOURCE: Yamaha 1100 Drag Star 2001 Custom motor starter,

These parts are fairly reliable. Rather than buying new, you should be able to pick one up from a motorcycle breaker who will post it to you. I would expect to pay about £60-£100 tops in the UK (Depending on mileage). ANy Yamaha dealer will be happy to order you one new, but they are a hell of a price!

Have 2004 yamaha vstar 1100 classic, starter has been tested good, it tries to start but wont turn over, like its not "catching" i recently installed jet kit but this problem started about a week before...

Sounds like theone way starter clutch. About 2 1/2 hrs labor taking your time. Parts may be hard to get as this is a major problem with the v star. Parts are around $500 and limited. It will eventually quit completely. Yamaha has changed the old part number to a new upgraded version. When I looked up one for a customers bike it showed $331 When I got redy to check out the price jumped to $550 Good luck. Also there is some good daigrams on the v star forum on this problem.
Thanks

2005 v-star 1100 wont start . starter spins but

i worked for a large yamaha dealer. yes, those bikes are very well known for the starter clutch going out. it's about $85 to $125 in parts and about 1 to 1.5 hours labor. also, an oil filter relocator kit will save you money on servicing or changing your own oil.

1999 yamha 1100 custom v star keeps blowing a fuse how do i find

Something is causing the fuse to blow, its hard to say what it is without seeing the bike, but more then likely, you have a shorted out wire somewhere or a bad ground wire, possibly to your battery,
