Question about 2005 Suzuki Boulevard C50
I have an oil leak on my C50. It seems to be on the right side and I am suspecting the Chrome Engine Cover. I thought it might be a filter leak or drain plug leak. I changed the oil, re-cleaned everything, put on a new crush washer on the drain plug and there is still a small leak. You can see it on the chrome side cover. I had the clutch replaced last year and thought it might be the cover gasket, but unless I am mistaken, the clutch is serviced from the left side, not the right. Are there any known problems with oil leaking on this motorcycle? @
Hi, Stevenicoll external oil deposits fall into 3 categories:
1. WEEPAGE is oil that is sweated pass gaskets, seals, o-rings, and crankcase seams, it's covered by dry dust and is normal for older engines with lots of miles, no repair is necessary.
2. SEEPAGE is the same as weepage except the deposit is wet and confines itself to a specific area, repair is optional depending on the owner's cleanliness criteria, the deposit location and the weight of his bag of "DRACHMA"
3. LEAKAGE is the same as seepage except it is enough to drop to the ground leaving a spot. Repair as necessary.
To find the source of your oil leak, start at the point where you see oil and trace its path going up and forward, blowing baby powder from the palm of your hand will help in those difficult to see areas if there is too much oil present then buy a spray can of engine degreaser apply it to the affected area then rinse off with a pressure wand or garden hose, use compressed air to blow off excess water or just let it drip dry, take your bike for a 15 minute ride and check for the leak.

this is on the chain side of the bike, isn't it? i hope you always made damned sure your chain wasnt too tight when you adjusted it... i doubt this would be a problem on the wee, but on my gs1150, i had an offset sprocket so the chain would clear the larger gsxr rear tire i had i can't remember which size the tire was(185?), but my front sprocket was offset 3/8. well, the chain was too tight on that bike and the output shaft toasted the bearing, and that made some neat damage to my engine cases, the symptom i got was lots of smoke coming from there, oh that and the oil leak that looked a lot liek what you describe. however, greywolf knows the strom way better than me and his suggestion of the clutch pushrod seal makes sense. on the gs, the clutch is on the opposite side from the sprocket, so it's an impossibility. so check the clutch seal, also check your output bearing seal. dont fret my horror story, as i said, unlikely on a strom, and never happened on a gs1150 either, only happened because: A- too tight a chain B- offset sprocket.

if it's the valve cover, or covers it's an easy straight forward job. I suggest you have the new parts first

dear bldrnr the proper oil weight for your bic depends on the climate where you ride 20/50 is recommended for hot climates 10/40 is recommended for average temps. jim

Should be behind one of your sidecovers. I f you did'nt get a manual w/yor bike then order one from your dealer. It's an invaluable tool....Good luck to you friend....Tim

Its funny you should mention this but yes, I had its bigger brother the GS 850 G , same problem, Apparently, in my situation I did the same thing and went to the shop and let those butchers make it worse !!!, the way i found my leak was by washing the motor with a grease and oil cleaner , strayed the whole motor and wash it all off totally, then I turn her on and let her get to operating temp went for a few mile and came back and checked it, for me it was the head gasket the guys put on and i forced them to do it again,
I found out later that it was common with the suzi's of that model and ended up doing it myself, I used the original gasket and used a compound called gasket goo and it never leaked through out the 8 years i had it .
But before you do anything , surly they gave you warrant y on the work so take it back and demand they do it properly.
