To remove your starter, first disconnect the battery. Then remove the foot board on the left side of the bike. Drain the oil out of the primary and remove the outer primary cover. Take the small bolt out of the starter jackshaft and remove it.

Now, on the left side of the bike, you'll probably have to remove the exhaust system plus anything else that might be in the way of getting to the starter and the bolts that hold it on. Disconnect the battery cable at the screw post on the starter, 12 mm nut. There are two large bolts that hold the starter on that take an Allen wrench or hex key to remove. Take these two bolts out and the starter is loose. Work it out of the engine.

Good Luck
Steve

When I press the start button the starter turns but the gear does not engage. Battery is fine.

The gear is probably engaging the ring gear but it isn't turning the engine over. The "over running clutch" or "starter clutch" inside the starter is probably bad. You can replace just this part and it's cheaper than buying a new starter. But, only if you can do the work yourself. If you have to pay someone to do the job, the additional time required to disassemble and replace the clutch in starter will quickly eat up any savings you might have realized. If you're going to have to pay someone to do the work, just replace the entire starter. But, you can talk to the mechanic about this and see what the difference in price would be.

Fuses

it has 3 auto-reset breakers behind the battery on the front of the rear fender where the starter relay is, no fuses unless you have heated grips, vest etc.
